Room in Venice
 

I need a recommendation for a reasonably priced hotel in Venice for May. We are not set on any special location but would like to be able to walk to the downtown area if possible.

I guess that would make a difference--sorry about that. I would like to stay around $150 euros and hopefully no more than $200. Am I being unrealistic? We have been to Italy several times and to Venice but stayed outside the city in neighboring town the last trip. Traveling with friends on their first trip to Italy and would like to stay in the city this time if possible.

Some suggestions
1.Consider an apartment. There is a lot of info online for you to do the research.
2.Stay on the Lido, there are several moderately priced b&bs. You would take the waterbus to and from the landing station ear the Doge's Palace. Be sure to buy a ferry pass
3.Stay in Verona and take the train in each day.

You can search on www.tripadvisor.com or www.venere.com - Venice does tend to be pricey esp. when the exchange rate is bad! Those generalizaions being said - a more specific recommendation is Casa Rezzonico - I have not stayed there but I am in the process of booking it for next Sept. It is 150E per night and seems to get good reviews. It is in the part of the city I like to stay in. I have also stayed at La Calcina which I like alot but it has gotten pricier and also really books up.

Please consider 3749 Ponte Chiodo at about 130 Euros per night. It is a small B&B in a good location where you can walk or take the water bus to sights. We were very happy with our stay there in Sept. of this year. Check it out on Trip Advisor.

Consider renting an apartment for your stay in Venice. Lots more fun than a hotel. At least for us. There will be several properties in your price range. Many can be had for as few as three nights. A two bedroom apartment works well for two couples and larger properties are available.

As others have suggested, an apartment can be a good value when seeking accomadations for several people.

I've stayed twice at www.lacalcina.com Pensione La Calcina. It's a lovely 3-star hotel, in that price range, nice breakfast included. A bit out of the hub-bub (along the Guidecca) but not too far to walk to everything.

I can also recommend La Calcina, although you might be a bit late to book for May. We have so far stayed three times and are booked again for this year.

Remus, "would like to stay in the city this time" is not really compatible with staying at the Lido or in Verona !!

We stayed at Ca'Satriano and loved it. It is a three room B&B on a lovely little canal. Felt like having our own home as we were the only 2 couples there. Manager comes each morning to fix a great breakfast and tidy up, then you have the place to yourself.

If you want more hotel like atmosphere, try the Novecento. It was just across the alleyway from the above B&B and is a lovely little hotel.

Both are good locations for walking to all sights in Venice.

We were in Venice last February and I wouldn't stay anywhere but Venice proper.
