Rookie mistake! :(

I booked a vacation through Solar Tours...so far no complaints. I will be in London for 3 days and then I have a flight at 2pm out of Heathrow to Paris. I decided to not use this transfer ticket and bought a train ticket so that I could arrive in Paris earlier and not deal with Heathrow. When I called Delta about seat assignments and mentioned this to them they told me that if I miss that flight then the final flight home from Paris to San Fransisco would be cancelled.

In all fairness I havent been able to confirm that as of yet, but the fact that it is a probability is a huge dissapointment. I will post when I get a definite answer but beware of making same mistake...check with booking agent before making any independent changes! Who knew??

If it is one booking to Paris via London and back home - then yep -- you are stuck. You can't pick and choose which legs of the trip you use.

Make no mistake - - the "probability" is 100%.

Best wishes,

Hi M,

Try to sell your train ticket on www.eBay.com.

If you book an airline ticket with several legs, you MUST use the ticket or all subsequent legs are canceled.

You are lucky to have found out about this before you tried to return home.

FYI, you can book "open jaw" tickets - into airport A, home from airport B.

Enjoy your visit.

Actually, I was able to cancel the second leg of my incoming trip by asking at the desk when I checked in at the first leg, with no harm done to my return trip. I forget the airline, but it was an international trip (Boston - Milan - Bologna) ....

The ticket agent sent me to her boss, and the boss was able to do it (one click of the button). My understanding was, it worked because they changed it _after_ I checked in.

Well, sob, sniff...you all knew how this was going to end. I write this for the benefit of others.

I cannot miss or cancel part of a bulk flight without canceling the rest of my flights.

Good news! Rick Steves is awesome!!! I purchased my rail tickets through them and I just got off the phone with the company and they said that if I return them in the same month I bought them they will give me a full refund!
