RomeShuttleLimo vs. RomeCab

This may seem simple based on the prices given, but I'm looking for total reliability at 4:30 in the morning.

Romecabs.com has sent a price of 50 euro from our Termini hotel to FCO. A friendly letter and cell phone number from Stefano. He said it was a "discount."

http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com/
Says 40 euro.

I would love opinions or comparisons between these two services. I would prefer to pay 40 rather than 50 euro.

tuscanlifeedit...

I can only tell you of my experience with Rome Cabs and Stefano and it was GREAT!

We used them to pick us up at FCO and take us to our hotel and a week later return us to FCO. This was last December (Christmas holiday week)

The driver was at the airport holding a sign with our name on it when we arrived, and it was an 8:30am arrival/pick-up.

For my return trip I had to change the pick up time to 30 minutes earlier. I emailed Stefano (this was on Christmas Eve) and he replied the same day and had no problem changing the time.

On the return trip the driver was at our hotel right at 7am on the dot. We made such great time going to the airport she asked if we wanted to stop for cappucino! :) She did tell us that she starts her mornings very early (4:30am) to get people to the airport.

We paid 45 Euro each way, so maybe there has been a price increase since then. I did not mind paying this because I felt the service we received was excellent.

I will be using them again this year when I am back in Rome later this year in December.

Hope this helps you in making your decision.

The 4 of us used Romecabs in Sept - they were waiting for us as expected, nice gentleman loaded our bags, used his somewhat limited English to point out a few 'views' as we drove through Rome, all very well run.

tuscanlifeedit,
I used Romeshuttlelimousine and was happy with the service. I scheduled a 0530 pickup and he showed up at at 0515, he sais he had allowed for traffic.

I have used Rome Shuttle for the past 2 trips and have been really impressed by their prices and promptness. 4:30am pickups for my daughter and her family on a weird side street, no problem. My plane arrives 45 minutes early, they are already there. Drivers are friendly. I completely recommend them!!

Used Rome Shuttle Limousine 3x already, and always for an early pick-up. They were always there 30 minutes before the agreed time!! Prompt and courteous drivers...highly recommend them.

tuscanlifeedit, I think I may have told you already, but I used RomeCabs in November and loved them. It was a Mercedes both ways, I was the only passenger (no sharing with others). I think the higher price is for the early early morning (mine was a 4:30 pickup). It is customary for both shuttles and taxis to add on the early morning surcharge, so I'd check to make certain the other doesn't. Safe, clean, friendly and reliable...what more can you ask for?

tuscanlifeedit Mar 19th, 2008 05:52 AM

Ho boy! I kind of guessed that it would be glowing recs all the way around.

I did ask each company for specific rates for the extra early pick up, so that isn't the issue.

I am just a tad put out that Stefano said it was a "discount" price he was giving me. That colors my decision, especially since his price is 10 euro (16 or more of my US dollars) more than RomeShuttleLimo.

For those that have used RomeShuttleLimo, were these private pick ups, no stopping for other passengers?

I told both companies that due to the nature of my business, I would probably be using their services throughout the year, based on this experience in May. It seems just a tad smarmy to say that 50 euro was a discount price, considering this. No?

What do you all think?

I used Rome Shuttle Limo last winter for transfers to and fro the airport to my hotel in central Rome. The cars were both new Mercedes and we were the only passengers in the car. We will use them again on our next visit to Rome.

I've used romeshuttlelimousine half a dozen times. They've always been reliable; I've always been the only passenger.

Stefano has a great reputation, mostly with people who want an English-speaking driver who will point out the Colosseum on the way to the hotel. For 10 Euros, I can dispense with those "services".

I've used Romeshuttlelimousine several times with perfect success. Last summer, they were still waiting for us when we arrived over 2 hours late. The driver didn't charge us anything extra, and he even drove us by an ATM to use, and also called our apartment owner on his cell phone to tell her we were on our way. I love them.

Romecab's published price is:
- 2 people, 45€
- extra, 5€ per person

Bookmarking for Sept trip. Thanks for all the info!

You absolutely cannot go wrong with Romecabs and Stefano Costantini. He's delightful, prompt and we have used his services for both transfers and tours. I highly recommend his company.

We used Romeshuttlelimosuine for our early morning (5am I think, maybe 4:30am) last June in Rome. The driver arrived right on time, we were the only passengers in the van, and we zipped right to the airport with almost no traffic at that time of morning. We had already prepaid using PayPal so we just tipped the driver and off we went. We will be using them again in November when we are in Rome again.

tuscanlifeedit Mar 19th, 2008 06:02 PM

Thank you to everyone who has responded.

I am going to go with Romeshuttlelimo. Considering the terrible US dollar situation, I have got to go with small savings where I can get them.

The other thing is that I am sort of offended by Stefano telling me that he is giving me "a disount."
