Rome - Where in Rome?
 

OK, we leave in 2 weeks. Our apartment is on the road called
Lungotevere degli Artigiani, 30. We found Lungotvere along the east side of the Tiber but...where does the "degli Artigiani" come in?

We have a Michelin guide but can't seem to find the street...does anyone have a website that could help with a map? Mappy appears to be only French.

By the way, the apartment's directions say from the Termini, take the 170 Bus and get off at the Stradivari Stop...Maybe a map that can be translated in English of the bus routes?

I'm blushing...I never have this problem in Paris! Sheesh.

The Lungotevere means it runs along the Tiber..just follow the street as it changes names as it goes..Lungotevere xxx becomes Lungotevere yyyy...etc

Looks to be south of Trastevere, so pretty far from most tourist things.

You are close to San Pietro in Montorio, which is the site of Bramante's Tempietto. Not many people head up there because of the distance from most tourist attractions, while I found it to be a nice site to see the city form. Besides being an important design.

If your map has Ponte Testacio marked, Lungotevere degli Artigiani is the section of the road along the west side of the Tiber just south of that bridge. (Via Stradivari crosses the bridge) Your road is just a few blocks east of Stazione Trastevere. If you are arriving at the airport it would be much closer to take the local train to that station than the Leonardo Express to the Termini station.
To get to the central part of the city (Largo Argentina) from your apartment you would walk west to Viale di Trastevere and take a #8 tram.

gemmarlv and Vttraveler can't both be correct. If Vttraveler is correct, then San Pietro in Montorio really isn't very close.

Vttraveler is correct. Much easier to take the airport train to the Trastevere station as it is very close by. San Pietro in Montorio is nowhere near this area.

I vote with Vttraveler. If you go to the google map and look at the satellite photo, moving the image to the right (so the arrow is near the right of the image) you'll clearly see the Trastevere train station -- with its circular drive --about 4 blocks west of Suzie's location. The Viale Trastevere tram to Largo Argentina will be your lifeline to centro storico.

San Pietro in Montorio is quite a bit farther north in the area of Trastevere near Santa Maria in Trastevere. we walked down to the church from the Piazzale Garibaldi on the Gianicolo(great views of the city). We were amazed at how few tourists stopped there considering the fact that the Tempietto is considered a major work of Renaissance architecture.

degli Artigiani is just past Ponte Testaccio, heading away from Rome towards the airport. #30 looks to be at the far end of the road, where it turns to make the loop back.

Don't take the Leonardo Express from FCO, take the FR1 Local train. Get off at Stazione Trastevere.

From the train station, walk to the right on Via di Cesare. When it turns hard to the right, walk left onto Via Rolli. Go up one block and take your first right onto Via Belani. Down about 2 blocks and turn left. You should be right near your apartment.

It looks like the 170 bus is about a block up and to the left of your apt. You can also take the #8 tram up to Largo Argentina.

You might also try google earth. I did that and it showed where we were located.It was easy to find location when we arrived.

Thanks to you all. Got it. I hadn't thought of "googling" it.

We chose that area because it is away from the center. DH lived in Rome in the 80's. I was there when I was a kid. We're just going to Rome to well, sort of hang out.

Your apartment is right across the Tiber from Testaccio (hence the name of the bridge...) so it would be easy to explore that area of the city. It has definitely changed a lot since the 1980's

It is what I had read about and so made this area our destination!

I love to cook. The mention of the market set me up months ago! I cannot wait! My DH and I usually eat GREAT lunches and then go home for dinner.
