Rome: Walking time between Borghese and Capitoline Hill

On our fast approaching trip to Italy, we unfortunately only have part of one day (a Tuesday) in Rome. We've been before, me several times, but have never seen the Borghese Galleries or the Capitoline Hill Museums. DH is intent on seeing the Palatine Hill as well.

We arrive at 12:15 on a train and plan to drop our luggage at the hotel and immediately hit the sights. Our hotel is in the Via Firenze area so I am assuming we will be departing that area about 1pm toward whichever museum is first on the list.

Is it possible to see the Borghese, Capitoline Hill Museum, and Palatine hill in that one long afternoon? We're used to hiking and maintain a brisk pace even upwards of 12 miles per day, but we don't like being rushed through the museums themselves. We also prefer to walk over taking taxis or metros, not because of the money, but just because I love walking in Rome.

If this is possible, in which order should we attempt?

Many Thanks!
Jill

P.S. I should add that our itinerary (arrival, departure time) is not alterable at this point, so we really do only have from about 1pm to 8pm (when most of the sights close at the latest).

I believe you will need tickets to see Borghese Gallery. It is amazing and well worth it, and do get the audio tour. Sorry, but I can't remember walking distance to Capitoline Hill, but Borghese is a bit away from most other sights so it might work better to take a cab given your timeframe.

I agree that your time is probably too short to walk from one end to the other. Via Firenze is probably half way between the two, and I'm terrible about remembering how long it took to walk (too busy looking around to notice the time), but I'd bet that its a good half hour walk in either direction.

The real issue though, it the Galleria Borghese. You must reserve in advance (if you want to be guaranteed entrance), the entrance times are 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm & 5pm, AND they want you there 30 min. before your entry time to claim your tickets. A few minutes before each entry time, they offer any unclaimed tickets to people standing there hoping for no-shows. If you are late you may not get in. Also, nothing - no backpack, no daybag, no purse, no camera, nothing - is allowed inside. They have a check stand downstairs.

It seems to "do it all" you have no choice but reserve 5pm at the Borghese and head for Palatine Hill and Capitoline Hill the minute you drop your bags at your hotel. If you walk (downhill) to the forum 1:20 - 1:30 buy tickets for Palatine Hill and spend maybe 45 min. there, then walk through the forum to Capitoline Museum and buy tickets by 2:30, you could spend 1 1/2 hours there (is this enough time?). Exit the museum by 4:00 to hail a cab (uphill) to Galleria Borghese to arrive by 4:30 for your 5pm entrance. You'll be rushed, but you can do it.

I would try to book the Borghese for 2 or 2:30 and use the metro near via Firenze (Repubblica) to the Barberini. Don't you have to be there 15-30 minutes before your reservation to check in? You will still have a pretty long walk up Via Veneto to Borghese. After the Borghese see if you have time to walk to the Palatine Hill and Capitoline. If not take the metro to either the Colosseo stop or Circo Massimo. You can walk to Piazza Navona for dinner after the museums and then walk back to your hotel.

Everything seems to take a little more time than expected such as checking in hotels, lunch, buying tickets.
