Rome-Venice Trip
I am planning a honeymoon trip to rome and venice, I've ben reading some of these posts and got some good ideas, but wanted some advice/critique/suggestions on my tentative itinerary (we are leaving in mid-september):
Wed. pm arrive Rome
Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun. in Rome
Monday morning take a train to Venice.
Monday and Tuesday night in Venice
Fly out of Venice to return home on Wed. morning.
Does this seem like a do-able plan? I've been to europe before but that was in 1995!-so I'm a little rusty. Advice needed: Should I fly into venice and out of rome? more nights in venice? any ideas on hotels/restaurants?
I know-a lot of questions but any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Jay

There are other, much more competent fodorites with more experience that can help more - but I can relate my experience. We arrived in Venice for our trip and found it a great way to acclimate to Italy. The Ventetian experience, we thought, was much more slower paced and serene than many of the other places we visited in Italy - a nice place to get over jet lag and get your Italian feet under you. I can't comment on Rome, but I would add a night to Venice if you could spare another.

Okay, here is a third vote for flying into Venice (and congratulations!) Aside from the much slower- paced entry into Italy described by Snabes, most flights back to the US from Venice are super early in the morning- resulting in frequent posts about how to handle the airport (expensive private water taxi vs hotel airport). You might check this as you investigate flights, and put in the info both ways. Also, since this IS your honeymoon, if you fly into Venice you can have a romantic dinner and then take a sunset gondola ride to celebrate your first day!

Thats pretty unanimous, I was thinking about reversing my trip, but flying into venice does seem to be better all round-not to mention the flight out, which I didn;t consider but imagine it would be more of a chore out of venice. Plus I think I (i mean we) will stay an extra night in venice. Thaanks for the tips, now I just have to figure out where to stay!!
thanks again
thanks again
