Rome, Venice hotels

I would love suggestions of nice, but not too expensive hotels for my honeymoon. I'm hoping to spend 150-200 Euros in Rome (3 nights) and 250 Euros in Venice (2 nights).

Thank you!

Start with www.eurocheapo.com

Best wishes,

Rex

Hmmm ! I read that as per nite Rex. But, it is not clear.

Sorry! Yes, I meant per night for those prices.

I would start with:

www.romeby.com
www.veniceby.com

And in Venice, I would strongly recommend Locanda Orseolo for unbeatable charm, serivce, and location.

You can also try octopustravel.com; gta.com; hotelopia.com; voyagenow.com.

All of these are services with discounted hotel rooms.

I think that eurocheapo now includes some Rome hotels at 150 euros per night, but I might be wrong (maybe $150). I guess you're right; the budget for Venice might be above the listings for eurocheapo (haven't checked recently).

For Rome, search here and on tripadvisor.com for the hotel
Portoghesi (which I've booked for next spring) and the Teatro di Pompeo.
I love the Santa Chiara hotel but not sure of current double rates, they are not the bargain I once found them to be, but it's worth looking into, it's a great little hotel.

For Venice, check out
Locanda Oseolo (rated #1 in Venice at tripadvisor) and also
Hotel Ala

Hotel Flora (a lovely little hotel, I'd stay there again when budget permits)

Pension Accademia/Villa Maravege (has an outdoor terrace)

La Calcina (always well-reviewed, slightly less central, but not by much, and it has an outdoor terrace if you're going in a warm season)

When are you going? The hotel rates can change a lot according to the seasons.

www.lacalcina.com in Venice and request a front corner room with a view of the Guidecca canal.

Try Hotel San Francesco in Rome (Trastevere neighbourhood)

and

Hotel Antiche Figure in Venice (if you can, upgrade to a Canal-front room)

I'm going in August (yes, I know, worst time to travel in Europe) - but I don't mind the crowds.

Plus I'm renting a private villa for a week in Tuscany so I should get away from crowds for part of the trip! :)

Another vote for La Calcina in Venice. Our favorite hotel of our trip to Italy was Residenza Cellini in Rome. Very nice rooms and the family that runs the hotel is very warm and friendly.
