Rome, Venice, Florence: Reservations?
 

I've been seeing more and more threads on making reservations for museums in these cities. I am aware of some of these, but not others and beginning to panic that I may not have complete information.

So, thought I'd ask. What sites or museums need reservations in advance? I know about some in Rome, but no other city. I have reservations for:

Borghese
Vatican Necropoli
Papal audience

Are there additional reservations that I need to make before I depart?

I suggest reservations for the Uffizi and Accademia museums in Florence.

The easiest and cheapest way is to call Florence 011 (U.S. international access code) 39 (Italy's country code) then 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes YOU CAN RESERVE FOR BOTH. This is through the reservation service at the Uffizi and costs beyond the normal entry fee only about 1.60 euro for the service. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services.

It was recently posted that you can reserve ahead for St Mark's basillica in Venice (which I was not aware of). Do a search for the string. If you want to do the "secret itinerary" at the Doges palace it must be booked ahead. You can ask your hotel to do it for you (not possible from US) or do it once you arrive.

ask your hotel in Florence to reserve for you at the Uffizi and Accademia

M.D you can also make reservations for all the major museums in Florenc by logging on to www.weekendafirenze.com very easy.
There is a small fee, but its woth it.

Acceessing this site was a little inconsistent -- sometimes it worked, sometimes not. And the site is in all Italian, but fairly easy to decipher.

Also, you CAN book the Doge's Palace Secret Itinerary tour yourself from the USA -- I did this earlier this week. The telephone number was 39-041-520-9070, and after being on hold for a couple of minutes, I got an English speaking operator.
