we will be in italy from 5/6 - 5/18
i am looking for hotels..

price range..something decent..i am still trying to figure out the euros without my husband around...so bare with me.

something cheap but decent and centrally located.

what exactly is "decent" for you? Just think about it in US dollars for now. $200.00 US a night or $75.? ...then convert it.

This will be my first time to italy. it will be just myself and my husband.

i am pretty excited..but will be more once i book some hotels

In Florence, check out the Tourist House Ghiberti. Don't let the awkward sounding name put you off, it is a terrific B&B, reasonably priced, and centrally located. It runs around 100-130 euros a night, depending on whether or not you pay in cash.

we stayed in:
ROme 3* Santa CHiara
FLorence 2* Hotel CAsci
Venice 3* HOtel FLora.

All of these were good hotels for the price, all in great locations, and all included a good breakfast.

MFNYC...trying to find info. on Santa Chiara. Somewhere I read a rave review of the hotel, but cannot find any information. Can you give a website? Is it expensive?

We stayed at the following in October 2002:

Florence - Locanda Orchidea (60E for a double with shared bath)(http://www.eurocheapo.com/florence/l...n/orchidea.asp) The owner is very friendly and helpful. We made reservations by email and she is a native English speaker. It is very very close to everything. It is basic though but the beds and rooms are clean and comfortable. We were more into saving money than luxury. But this place was very good for the price and we stayed for 9 nights.

Venice: Hotel Bernardi-Semenzato (80E with shared bath)(http://www.eurocheapo.com/venice/lis...n/bernardi.asp) We stayed here for 5 nights. It was very clean and the staff was helpful. The beds were a bit narrow and hard but acceptable. They included breakfast with excellent espresso! It is in Canneregio, but the walk to San Marco only takes 20 minutes and is lots of fun wandering through all the small streets to get there.

We liked Hotel San Carlo in Rome, great location by the Spanish steps, accomodating front desk, but lots of stairs to climb to our room, which didn't bother us, but may you...We would return there.

i know you said hotels, but in rome i used sleepinitaly and got a nice apartment in Campo dei fiori for 90E for mid may last year...hotels in the area were going for 30-50% more.


for mid may, this trip i've booked (en suite):
florence: B&B Peterson for 62E double
venice: hotel bernardi for 90E double

may save you time:
1. venice is nearly impossible to find venice proper for less than 90E (en suite). shared bathrooms, can mean 20E savings per night.

2. florence is easier, you can find what you want for almost any price range. train station locations are cheaper by 20E per night on average. 3. both are small cities, so you're not far out from anything really.

...just wanted to pass on hours of research.

$200.00 is a good price for us for a hotel..

ok 200 us dollars is our max, i would love to stay somewhere that is less that than but..not too cheap looking or something i will regret. 100 us dollars would be amazing...
