Rome-Tuscany-Venice..in 8 days...how??
 

Pls can anyone give me some advice? We want to see cities mentioned above but only have about 8 days. I really want to see Venice but because I'm traveling with a three year old I'm not so sure.....tuscany is a must, but for how many days? Do i need more than two days for Rome? Also, ill be 7 months pregnant by October when we plan to go so i cannot do too much walking...will have to stay close to attractions and take cabs. Best way to travel from city to city? I read quite a few posts on Italy and it seems like people feel u need to do Italy two r three times really. Im sure we will but we tend to try to see different countries while we are still young and will return to our favorite once the children are older and can experience it as well.

I am child-free, and there is no way I'd consider trying to visit even 2/3 of those in an 8-day period. Adding pregnancy to the mix makes it even more important to plan carefully.
Two days in Rome is lunacy--I mean that in the nicest way! There are a bajillion things to see and walking is required, sometimes uphill!

What places in Tuscany have you identified as a must--or do you just like the idea of a Tuscan villa kind of vacation? I think a driving vacation in Tuscany is what you should be planning. If you an fly into Venice and out of Florence, that might work, but you will not regret a slow trip.

first bit of advice - forget Rome. it's quite spread out and to get the most out of it, you need to do quite a lot of walking. and those cobbles are hard on a buggy. [stroller to you, I think] it's an excellent place for you to come back to when your kids are older.

so that leaves Venice and Tuscany. i would spend 3 nights in Venice [lots of boats to help you get about, squares for your 3 year old to run around in, etc.]

spend the rest of the time in Tuscany. Lucca might be nice [you could get the train to Florence] or Siena, or

oops - i meant to say "or Pienza" but pressed submit too soon. [I've tried to think of places that are reasonably flat].

pick up a car from Venice and drive to tuscany would be my advice.

We did something not too different from this (with more time) but chose to visit Le Marche over Tuscany. But 8 days is really not much time. I agree that it would be better to forget Rome for this trip. Great, but very tiring city if you're trying to see it in a few days.

But... in 8 days... :

Day 1: Rome
Day 2: Rome
Day 3: Bus to Pedaso in Le Marche; rent a car or be picked up by B&B owners, overnight Vinto de Rose B&B
Day 4: Vinto de Rose B&B near Monterubbiano (the most incredible B&B I've ever stayed in)
Day 5: Vinto de Rose
Day 6: Train from Pedaso to Venice
Day 7: Venice
Day 8: Venice

No, no, a thousand times no. Do your 8 days include arrival and departure days or do you have 8 full days on the ground? If the latter, choose two places; my recommendation would be Tuscany and Venice. In Tuscany, you might rent a car and base in one place. Lucca or Montepulciano depending whether you want to tour the north or south. Start in Venice, spend 3 days, train to Florence, rent a car and spend 5 days in Tuscany. You'll be happy you did!
