Rome train questions...

We are leaving for Rome in 2 weeks...we will be in Rome for 4 days and then traveling by train to Venice...do we need to buy our tickets ahead of time, before we leave the US, or can we just get them there?

What is the difference between Amica and Flexi fares(besides the price)?

Is it easy to take the train from the airport to Termini and then a cab to our hotel?

Thanks for the help!

Trains leave airport every 15 minutes to Termini.

I think buying train tickets in Italy is easiest.

When traveling by train know the names of the cities in Italy in ITALIAN.

See how to buy a ticket in Italy here:

Hi Ivi - Trains to Roma Termini leave every half hour.

Alternatively a pre-booked limo service from FCO to your hotel may not cost much more - the following companies get good reviews here:

www.limoservicerome.com
www.airportshuttle.it

You can get all your rail tickets in Rome - no need to book before you leave home.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Steve is right on--as always. Why use 2 modes of transport when the shuttle will do it for less than 40E to your hotel.

Easiest IMO to buy all your train tickets like Rome-Venice at Rome Airport's train station. There will be no problem getting reservations IME or at Termini station rather than suffering thru often long lines use the automatic ticket machines that do it all in English in a few minutes - idiot proof IMO as i could easily use them. the dedicated airport trains are non-stop and easy - then take taxis cheaper perhaps from Termini to hotel. The stopping trains from the airport can be dirty and crowded so be sure to take the non-stop and more expensive dedicated airport trains IMO
