rome to venice question
Actually two questions.
I am going to travel from Rome to Venice. We are trying to decide the best days of the week to go to Venice, we are only staying overnight. I think we will take a train (one of the night ones) but would love to know if anyone has any suggestions for the best way of going about this quick side trip. Thanks! S. |
Dear Li,
If you go to www.trenitalia.com/en you will find the train schedules. The 06:55 ES* gets into Venice at 11:28. If you want to take the night train, the 22:53 arrives at 05:30. Not much time for sleeping. |
St. Mark's Basilica is the #1 attraction. Beware that it closes early on Saturdays because of evening service. Like you, we had only one night in Venice. By the time we actually got to our hotel (no easy task) and dropped our bags, it was late afternoon. We headed immediately to St. Mark's Square but arrived too late to tour the Bascilica because of Saturday Mass.

Hi Li
You might find the Venice part of my trip report helpful. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34451044 |
I agree with Ira: not much time for sleeping. Italian fares are cheap, so you might like to try a little overshooting, thus. Rome Tiburtina 2253, sleeper, Pordenone 0726 to 0728 (you move fast) wash and take breakfast on the train, Venice Mestre 0825 to 0836, Venice Santa Lucia 0846. Then coming back Venice 2052, Pordenone 2209 to 2227, Rome 0656.

I am going to do the same thing Lithium and I believe it takes 4.5 hours to take the train...so we opted to fly there (which takes one hour) and we plan to stay one night. Try www.volareweb.com for low cost airfare to Venice. We priced a ticket at 19.98 euros plus about 40 odd euros for taxes and junk fees per person.
Great trip Report, Ira! Didn't know you were a fellow Atlantan. |
