Rome to Venice-help with booking train

I'm heading from Rome to Venice on September 24. I've read the posts on navigating Trenitalia. My questions are these:

1.where would I see whether a 2 for 1 is available? When I look to buy, I don't see the option. The price that comes up for 2 adults, with the Amica fare (seems to be the fare no use; no?), is 118.4 euro. This seems high to me.

2. would I need to go into mestre (9476) or s. lucia (9474) in venice? We are staying in an apartment near the Bridge of Sighs.

Thank you, thank you!

<The price that comes up for 2 adults, with the Amica fare (seems to be the fare no use; no?), is 118.4 euro> about $170 - you might want to check www.raileurope.com as they could be cheaper than that in 2nd class. But they would charge a $15 order fee and $18 booking fee so if RE's price is lower (and i don't know but it used to be $65 Venice-Rome ES train) then call BETS (800-441-2387), rail experts and don't charge RE's $18 mailing fee.

Mestre is on the mainland. The staion IN Venice is Santa Lucia. But - a lot of trains only go as far a Mestres and there are trains from Mestre to S Lucia several times an hour.

Sorry - don;t know about trenitalia. We always buy tickets once we get to the city we're leaving from.

You will want to take the train all the way to Venice S. Lucia. All trains to SL stop at Venice Mestre.

I believe the 2fer fair is on the Rome-Naples route, and the Amica fair will be the best you can get. 2nd class is just fine on the Eurostar trains.

Hi M,

It's only 4:15 hr. 2 cl on the ES* will be just fine.

They no longer offer reduced fares on this route.

You want Venice San Lucia.

You could get off in Mestre and then take the commuter train to San Lucia (about 1E) if you had to.

I just did a dummy booking for 24 September at the Trenitalia site. The 2nd class fares I found on the EuroStar Italia are €40.80/person (Amica) and €51.00/person (Standard).

What is the restriction with the Amica fare?

J62 Jul 27th, 2007 06:11 AM

I recently used the Amica fare and encountered no restrictions.

There might be a pre-purchase requirement, but you can click on the fare rules link for details.

Read about the Amica fare here: http://tinyurl.com/2ohrq6.
