Rome to Venice by rail -should I pre-book?
There will be 2adults + 2kids arriving into Rome 6.30am(scheduled time)on a Friday in early June from Australia & we want to go straight to Venice. (We have to come back to Rome later so don't want to stay on our arrival). We want to taxi to hotel, drop off some luggage then go to Termini. Should I book seats in advance-don't want to miss out as have booked accom in Venice. If we can't make the connection I assume I have lost my money? What are your thoughts? (Due to other commitments we can't really change the itinerary.)

I would look into flying, since you will already be at the airport. See www.whichbudget.com - - and be aware that routes within Italy are up for grabs and definitely in flux this winter/spring/summer. Ryanair just added some new routes, including Rome (Ciampino) to Venice(Treviso); I think that FCO-to-Venice is served by one or more carriers - - AirOne? more?

Hi ang,
> We want to taxi to hotel, drop off some luggage then go to Termini. < In Rome? >If we can't make the connection I assume I have lost my money? < No. If you have tickets on an IC you will lose your seat reservation, but your ticket is still good. If you have tickets on an ES* train you can change your reservations up to an hour before the train leaves Rome. See www.trenitalia.com/en click "reservation change" I think that you will be quite safe buying your tickets at the FCO train station when you get there. ((I)) |
Thanks for the advice. I will check these sites.
