Rome to San Gimigniano or Siena

What is the best way to go from Rome to San Gimigniano or Siena without renting a car. Can I go directly from Rome or do I have to take the train to Florence and go from there?

Thanks.

I've been from Rome to Siena by train. You can find schedules at www.trenitalia.it. I've seen several recommend bus services, but I've never tried that method.

Hi Clau,

There is a bus from Rome Tiburtina train station direct to Siena.

I am trying to figure out a similar question but want to go to Siena area directly from the airport in Rome, not from the city center. We will fly into Rome from Dallas and want to get up into Tuscany (Chianti area) and I was wondering if there were any direct trains from the airport. (Probably not but thought I would check.)

Gopack, if you check on the trenitalia website and enter Fiumicino as your starting point it will give you the options available.
