Rome to Port of Civitivecchia

Does anybody know if tthere is a train from Rome to the Port of Civitivecchia?

Dukey Jun 26th, 2007 07:18 AM

There is rail service from Rome to the town of Civitavecchia. However, be aware that the entrance to the prit area is about a 10-15 minute walk from the station and that your ship may very well be docked beyond that.

You can easily take a cab from the train station to where the ship is actually docked.

Train fare from Rome one way probably less than 10 Euro..IOW a lot cheaper than using ship transfers.

Sorry for the typo..that should read to the entrance of the PORT area...

these trains also serve stations like San Pietro by the Vatican and other Rome stations as well like Ostiense, Travestere (i believe) and well as Termini - the two first smaller stations may be closer to your hotel and not so hectic as Termini, Rome's main station.

We need a shuttle or bus (not expensive taxi or inconvenient train) from Civitavecchia cruise dock to FCO or our hotel in Lido Di Ostia (a little south of FCO) in early September. Perhaps a car would work. Any deals from the port city?

From Civitavecchia to your hotel in Ostia Lido the best bet is to ask your hotel to send a driver.

I think the cheapest shuttle you will find will be around 110-140E. I'm not aware of any bus route between the port and Ostia. If a bus exists, it would probably involve a change in Rome.

sandi_travelnut Jun 27th, 2007 11:50 AM

Why is the train so inconvenient?

Dukey Jun 27th, 2007 12:02 PM

I suspect for some the cost of alternative methods is inversely related to the "inconvenience" of taking the train.

PalenQ Jun 27th, 2007 12:04 PM

half-mile stroll to train station for twice hourly trains to heart of Rome seems easy enough for me. and dirt cheap - $10 tops i'd think or less.

sandi_travelnut Jun 27th, 2007 12:41 PM

you can also take a cab to the trian station is you don't want to take the stroll also

PalenQ Jun 27th, 2007 12:44 PM

sandi - i was replying to you saying "Why is the train so incovenient" meaning you thought it was. i now realize you meant as i, it's a snap as i should have known from someone so travvy savvy.

Dukey Jun 27th, 2007 12:51 PM

There are a multitude of factors to consider: age and agility of the traveler(s); amount of luggage; patience level; possibly the ability to negotiate stairs (unless the train arrives on the stub end platform in Civitavecchia.

Yes, the train can be convenient and easy depending on those factors.
