Rome to Oviedo
Considering a day trip from Rome to Oviedo in June. What's the best way to get there using public transportation? Would prefer not to join a tour, but explore on our own. Any recommendations on where to enjoy a delicious lunch in Ovieto would also be welcomed. Thanks!

Do you mean Orvieto?
I did that a few years ago. You take the train and then a funicular up to the town. Then you can walk from there. |
Yes, an easy one hour train ride.

Assuming that we're talking about Orvieto, you catch the train from Termini and get off about an hour later at Orvieto.
then catch the funicular from right opposite the station to half-way up to the town, and the bus to take you to the top - it stops by the TI and cathedral. Make sure that you see the cathedral when it's open - the front is wonderful but you don't want to miss the inside. I can't remember where we had lunch, but it was off the main drag somewhere and pretty good though I'm sure that there are tourist traps there. we were there in winter so we had had enough by 5pm, but depending on the time of year that you were visiting, you might want to stay longer. We walked down to the station - there's a park and ancient well about half-way down. |
Thanks! Will have to work on my spelling!

There is an Oviedo in northern Spain, which may go partially to explain your confusion.
from Rome to Oviedo would be more than a day trip! |
