Rome to Frankfurt ideas
My wife and I are going to Rome in may with both our parents and then continuing on to Germany with just my mother.
We have been to rome before and are looking for suggestions on our latest trip. We will be staying at the Del Senato thanks to this board. We actually reserved suites- 6th fl, with views and balconies directly with the hotel. Thanks everyone! After 6 days in Rome, we will be flying to Munich for 3 days, picking up a car, spending 1 night in Regensburg (moms home town) 2 nights in Baden-Baden, and 2 nights in Heidelberg. We are just looking for ideas on how to spend our time in each destination. These were chosen by my wife so theres little room for changes as far as destinations are concerned. Any responses will be truely appreciated! |

How about 2 nights in Regensburg? It is a more interesting place than Baden Baden, unless casinos and spas are the main draw. Also, pick up your car on the way out of Munich so your not burdened with it in the city. Dachau is a must see, of course. Good luck.

Sounds perfect to me though not much time in any location. I agree that you should pick up your car on leaving Munich. While in Munich consider a day trip to the castle area. Regensburg is a true delight, but then again so is Baden-Baden. While in Baden-Baden consider driving the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse to Freudenstadt - an easy 2 hour drive through the Black Forest. Also while in Heidelberg consider a drive down the Neckar Valley to Bad Wimpfen - a picturesque medieval village with many castles and "quaint" villages along the way. Have a great trip!

For Munich lodging, perhaps Insel der Muehle (part of the Romantik properties) - - very nice place for the price, though not all that central.
Dachau, yes - - the Deutsches Museum (better for those who read German reasonably well), Asamkirche, Alte Pinakothek (consider a docent-led tour), Landshut. And I see no need to trim from Baden-Baden, whether you like the Casino (classier and btter han Monte Carlo, IMO). Strongly recommend Schloss Neuweier (dining only?), the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse - - and if you really want to go BIG splurge for dinner - - Traube Tonbach, Tonbachstrasse 237, Baiersbronn, tel: (7442) 49-26-65. Best wishes, Rex |
Thanks for the ideas everyone. I have never been to Germany, and seeing that it is my mothers homeland I have always wanted to experience it with her.
I am looking forward to taking the drive through the Black forest and the Neckar Valley. Thanks Rex for the dining suggestions. I was looking for something "special". |
