ROME TO CIVITAVECCHIA PORT

Hey, looking for info on transportation from near Vatican to Civitavecchia Port. Have been told can catch train to airport and then train to port, then taxi - at high cost. And need to do reverse upon return from cruise. How have you done it? Thanks.

You can get on the train at the S Pietro train station by the Vatican and take it all the way to Civitavecchia - not going by way of airport. I just did it. The Civitavecchia station is a very short walk along the seafront to the boat docks.

You can get a regional train at Roma San Pietro (station in VC) which takes you to Civitavecchia.

The port entrance is about a ten minute walk from the railroad station although your ship may be docked further on.

Take a taxi from the train station to the ship.

The cost of the rail trip will be less than 10 Euro.

Sorry for adding a useless repeat...must have been posting at the same time as Pal.

Actually i'm glad you did because i was having senior moments about remembering what i did several weeks ago and thought maybe it wasn't S Pietro direct but now i know.

This is a slow stopping train that takes about an hour there.

Thanks for the idea. Most frustrating part of trip - Rent car at FCO, spend week in north, return car at FCO, find way to Rome for few days, get to Port for Cruise, get back from cruise to Rome, get back to FCO. Ideas sure welcomed.

Does anyone know how often the train runs and how long the trip takes?

Leo, the answer to many of your problems can be found at www.romeshuttlelimousine.com

I don't know their rates to Citavecchia, but for 35euro they meet and greet you at FCO and deliver you to a hotel in central Rome -- makes dealing with a couple tickets on the train and then taking a taxi obsolete.
