Rome to Capri

We will be spending several days in Capri, Nov. 12-16. What is the best way to get from Florence to Capri? Also, what are some "don't miss" sites and where should we stay and dine. Thanks to all.

The best way from Florence to Capri is to take the train (go to trenitalia.com to see the schedules) to Naples. From the station take a taxi to Molo Beverello (the port) and an aliscafo (jet boat) to Capri.

What don't miss sites are you talking about? Capri or Florence and what are your interests? In Florence I love the Bargello museum and Santa Croce. Of course you can't miss David in the Accademia. Call now for reservations for the Accademia and the Uffizi.

Definitely check out what's open in Capri during your intended stay before you go. It is not unusual for many places ( restaurants, hotels, shops) to close down or have limited winter schedule hours starting in November. Make sure that you carefully check out the ferry/hydrfoil schedule, too, since this changes according to the season.

And be aware that the ferries and hydrofoils are cancelled when the water is rough. I would arrive in Naples as early in the day as possible to provide access to the maximum number of potential sailings that day. (You don't want to arrive at 3 p.m. thinking you'll catch the last sailing of the day.)

Please don't think you will have a hard time getting an aliscafo to Capri. They run fairly regularly. People live there and work in Naples. They run until late even at that time of the year. The fact is that as the above poster mentioned, if the weather is bad and waves high, they cancel. As soon as the sea calms down, they start again.
