Rome to Barcelona?

The way our trip got set-up we will be in Rome before needing to get to Barcelona. Everyone in our group as Eurail passes (global), and we are trying to creatively find ways of getting to Barcelona from Rome. Any assistance is appreciated.

Can you eat the cost and fly? Trenitalia puts it at an 18.5-hour train journey, changing in Milan. I'm not sure if this link will work, but:

Fly
Look at whichbudget.com I suspect Vueling may work.

I will try flying or ferry, not train at all.

vueling.com about 100eu depending on date
Ryanair.com flies out of the small airport in Rome

Grimaldi-lines.com
Grimaldi Ferries from Civitavecchia, Rome port take a full day 11:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and beats the train, comfortable and good food. We took it and had one of the best nights of sleep, great beds.

Rome to Barcelona is one of the cheapest one way fares in Europe. Considering the massive amount of time you save over any overland or sea route - it is well worth it.

For example, almost any day in June is going for 88 Euros.

Try Iberia or Vueling.

Be aware of luggage weight restrictions on airline flights. The trip from Rome via Milan to Barcelona can sometimes involve the Elipsos night train service which even in couchettes can become pricey although passholders DO get special reduced fares. I agree with the others that flying may be your best bet in terms of saving time and money.
