Rome to Amalfi travel
 

I'm planning my honeymoon to Italy and flying into Rome. What is the best way to get to Amalfi? I checked flights to Naples but they were $450 round trip. That seemed expensive to me-does anyone know what the going rate is? How convenient is the train and how much does that cost?
Any other suggestions for an 11 day trip to italy besides Rome and Amalfi?

Are you going to Amalfi the town or the coast? Are you staying in Rome a few days first?

An ES train from Rome Termini station to Naples will be 25E 2nd cl per person one way. They have been running 2 for 1 specials for the new AV trains for 33E 2nd cl for 2. If you can get one of the specials it's a great deal. These prices include your seat reservation.

From Naples you would have to catch the local commuter train (Circumvesuviana) to Sorrento and the cost will be about 4E.

From Sorrento you catch the Sita bus to Amalfi.

If you are traveling in summer there is also the Marozzi bus from Rome Tiburtina station to Sorrento for about 20E per person one way.

For the town of Amalfi, it should be faster and easier to take the train to Salerno and then the SITA bus; rather than going through Sorrento.

Hi Jaw - The Salerno route is quicker for Amalfi itself.

From Salerno in summer you can get to Amalfi by ferry (- 35 mins) or bus (- 75 mins).

Why not fly into Rome, train to the AC and fly out of Naples?

For Rome to Positano or farther East on the AC I suggest taking the train to Salerno.

It is about 3 blks to the ferry docks. The ferry stops at Amalfi and Positano, and is much nicer than riding the SITA bus.

If you are staying in Sorrento, take the train to Naples and the Circumvesuviana train (same station)to Sorrento.

You could splurge, if you wish, by taking the train to Naples and limo from Naples Centrale to Positano - about 100E.

I think 5 nights Rome and 5 nights on the AC would be a lovely honeymoon.
