Rome to Amalfi or Positano transportation

I need to train from Rome to Naples first?

Then a bus, limo, ferry, drive, or hydrofoil to Positano or Amalfi.
Best mode of transport?

We are looking for 2 days of pretty and quiet. Amalfi or Positano?
Thanks!!

Hi SKF - The usual options from Rome are:

1. Bus: Rome-Positano (- 5hrs approx; the cheapest option - € 20)
www.marozzivt.it

2. Train: Rome-Naples (€ 25+), then limo (- € 100 approx)

3. Train: Rome-Salerno (- then ferry)

4. Train: Rome-Naples (- then hydrofoil or public transport)

If cost is not an issue, 2 is the quickest and most hassle-free.

Hope this helps ...

If you want pretty and quiet consider Praiano, halfway between Positano and AMalfi. Smaller, quieter, and with the same beautiful views of the coast and sea. What's great is NO crowds. We've stayed in Praiano 4 times and loved every minute.
We always take the train to Naples and have DriveAmalfi meet us on the platform.

Look at

We've stayed at both and they're wonderful.

Thank you for the information.
We will be traveling around March 20th.
I am under the impression that the ferry and hydrofoil are not running then, is that true?
Also, if they are running, what is the duration time wise of the ferry or hydrofoil route from Naples to Amalfi.
The cost?
Trying to compare that mode of transportation versus the car hire, but am thinking that the latter sounds better.

SKF - The hydrofoil service from Naples doesn't re-start until 31.3

Ferry services from Salerno usually re-start sometime in March (- check next month for starting date).
(N.B. Ferries are subject to cancellation if seas are not calm).

Ferry journey times/fares:
Salerno-Amalfi - 35mins / € 5
Salerno-Positano - 70mins / € 8

Alternatively -

Marozzi bus Rome-Sorrento (3hrs 45' - € 17)
- then Sita bus to Positano (45') or Amalfi (1hr.30')

Or -

Options 2 or 4 above
- i.e. train to Naples, then limo or public transport via Sorrento.

Hope this helps ...

Steve
