Rome this weekend 2-5-9-00 need tips

This is our first visit to Rome. We have a place to stay, but need tips on things to see and do in a short visit of 4 days. Short time to respond, we are leaving on Friday the 4th of Feb. Thanks, Janice

I took my husband for his 40th birthday, this weekend 2 years ago.

On Saturday we went shopping, crossed the river and went to the Vatican museum, had lunch, went to St Peter's, saw the big church with the domed roof whose name has gone out of my head, had supper in a piazza and watched the world go by.

On Sunday we did all the Roman stuff- saw the central ruins, went to the Collosseum, drove out to the far end of the Via Appia and walked back. Had lunch, drove back across Rome in a Taxi- knackered- went to see the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, had supper.; left next morning

This Saturday sees the start of the first Six ntions Rugby Union Championships. Scotland play Italy in Rome. Get a ticket and go to the game?
Hi Janice,
I've been to Rome several times in the Feb-March months. I'm not sure what part of Rome you are staying in, but if you are near the Old Quarter, there is a lot to see that is within walking distance. I always stay at the Hotel Cesari, which is a 5 minute walk to the Trevi Fountain. I think I prefer so see the fountain at night. It is truly spectacular lit up, and there should be very few crowds. I would see the Spanish Steps which is in the main shopping district. If you are looking for leather gloves, there is the best(and very reasonable) glove store right across from the bottom of the Stairs.
Definitely go to Piazza Narvona so see the fountains. Many movies have filmed there. Of course, don't miss the coliseum/ruins and The Vatican Museum/St. Peter's Cathedral. There are no words to describe this cathedral - truly magnificent! Be prepared to walk a lot. The weather is usually quite good about this time.
Enjoy!
