Rome Termini to Pantheon area - which taxi stand?
 

Does it make difference where I pick up a taxi at Termini to Pantheon area? Via Giolitti, Piazza dei Cinquecento or Via Marsala?

Might sugest yoou foloow the blue taxi signs too the taxi line in fromt of Termilni,, getting in line until a taxi
becomes available make sure it is medallioned and meter equipped, might
otherwise end up with a set up....Richard of LaGrange Park, Il.

If you follow the exit to Piazza Cinquecento, you can look up above the doors and see a designation for "Taxi". After passing through that door, you'll see the taxi stand just ahead of you.

You can even walk. it isin't that far.

Unless you are a combination marathon walker/weight lifter, I would not suggest walking with luggage from Termini to the Pantheon area. It's a roughly 8-10 Euro ride -- not exactly just around the corner!

I once waited for what seemed hours for a free taxi on Via Giolitti, so now I trudge all the way to Piazza del Cinquecento. Where I have sometimes also waited for what seemed hours...

Has anyone used the tunnel called "Tutti i servizi" (with a taxi logo, among many others) that leads downstairs around half-way along the long, long walk from the Leonardo Express?

Just curious about the regulars think: I really don't like the taxi stand at Termini for a variety of reasons...what do regulars think about walking 2 blocks to Via Nazionale, and trying to catch a cab there?

(Fortunately, my hotel was close enough to walk but after 1 scam (long drive to very close hotel) and one attempted scam (driver professed not to know where Via Firenze was, at which point I walked away and decided to walk) I took to walking, which was easy as I travel light.

As far as I know, taxis cannot be hailed in Italy; they have to be taken at taxi stands or called.

Correction to the above: ... cannot be hailed in Rome. Other cities may have other rules.

greg: I'd try the side entrances to Via Giolitti or Marsala (whichever is closer) and check-out those taxi stands 1st. If none are available just continue to the Piazza's taxi stand.
I've walked right up to a taxi on Via Giolitti 3x.
Those taxi stands are right outside the main section of the terminal, between the platforms and the front entrance.
Eloise: Where you waited on Via Giolitti, was that the taxi stand *directly* downstairs from the Airport Train? If so, I've noticed that the few taxis I've seen usually just drop-off there and leave. Probably because it's so out of the way and slow compared to the front/main section of the station and other areas of Rome. Regards, Walter

Walter, I waited on Via Giolitti -- at street level just outside the station --umpteen years ago. The Leonardo Express had not even been introduced at the time. Perhaps I was just unlucky.

But thanks very much for the information about the taxi service "downstairs" from the airport train. I've been tempted to go down in order to shorten the long hike to the front of the station, but I now know that it's better not to do so.

I have hailed countless taxis in Rome, as recently as last week, with no problems.
