Rome taxi?

Hey, guys!
We are a family of four adults arriving in Rome around 5:00 p.m. in late May. Our hotel offered to arrange a taxi for us at the airport for 70 Euros. Is this too high? Suggestions? Information? We cannot go by train to save money. My mother is 87 years old and she will be exhausted by the time we get there. Thanks,
grace

70 Euros is a bit high.

You can have a look at these limousine services:

www.limoservicerome.com
www.romeshuttlelimousine.com
www.airportshuttle.it

All three have been recommended here.

It's advisable to book a shuttle service in advance; the taxis that wait at Fiumicino are not all noted for their honesty...

A taxi to the Spanish Steps area would be at most 40 Euros, so if the hotel is really just sending a regular taxi for you, that seems a bit steep (although I dont' know where your hotel is). However, I think with four adults and luggage you may need a larger car then just a regular taxi. I would contact the companies below and ask for a quote for a one-way van or stretch limo transfer from Rome airport. Also, if the hotel's quote was for a van that would fit all of you, that seems more appropriate. Otherwise, you may need two taxis if you have 1 large suitcase each, trunk space is small).

Cicerone,

The companies you have provided links for serve Naples, not Rome where Grace is arriving.

Cicerone Apr 27th, 2006 07:17 AM

They all offer Rome airport transfers, you need to check the websites.

They all offer Rome airport transfers, you need to check the websites. Be patient.

I recently used Rome Cabs for three adults and paid 45 euro into the city and 50 euro back to the airport. I was also traveling with someone elderly and Stefano, our driver, was very good and very patient with her limitations.

Cicerone - The companies you list offer airport tranfers from Rome TO Positano/ Amalfi Coast (- or vice versa).

They don't provide transfers to/within Rome from Rome airport.

Steve,

They do say they offer transfers in all Italian cities from airport to downtown, transfers that, I am sure, they contract out - which probably raises the price.

Personally, I prefer to see the rates on the Web site to having to send an "inquiry."

Steve_James Apr 27th, 2006 07:49 AM

Cicerone - Eloise is right. The companies you list are Sorrento/Amalfi Coast-based ...

They offer transfers TO Sorrento/Positano etc FROM Rome airport (- or vice-versa).

They don't offer transfers within Rome from FCO.

I've used Benvenuto for transfers from Rome airport to Rome, that's why I listed them. Sorry about the others, they have been recco'd on this site as reputable, and I think they would be worth contacting to see if they offer this service, just becuase the website may not list it does not mean they would not offer it. I guess Benvenito does not list Rome transfers, but they do offer it...

70 Euro is high. airportshuttle listed above by Eloise charges 37 Euro for the first person and 6 Euro for each additional person, so that would be 55 Euro.

I recommend this company: http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com/FiumicinoE.htm
We have used them twice. The last time was 2 weeks ago. They charge 35 Euros for up to 4 persons. They are reliable. I will use them again without hesitation.

Sorry about the double post.

Cicerone - Surely they just acted as a booking agent on your behalf - and added on their fee. How much did they charge you?

There doesn't seem much point in booking through a middle man when you can book direct IMO.
