Rome/Switzerland/Austria
Our itinerary looks like this:
Arrive Rome - spend 3 days Take Train to Switzerland (south/east area - 2 days. Take Train to Vienna - spend 3 days We fly back home from Vienna. My question is what train do you take from Rome through Switzerland heading to Vienna? Thoughts on where to visit in Switzerland? |
Zermatt is my favorite place in Switzerland. But that is probably a little too far west. Maybe Lucerne or Innsbruck.

Hi W,
Check www.bahn.de It would be helpful if you knew where you wanted to stay in CH. You might be able to buy your Rome/CH tickets at www.trenitalia.com and your CH/Vienna tickets at www.bahn.de. Tren is offering 99E pp for a dbl sleeper from Rome to Vienna and 79E pp to CH. Click "Smart Price". ((I)) ((I)) |
Hi Winelady,
The south/east portion of Switzerland means the Engadin Valley, a favorite off-the-beaten-track valley of some of our favorite posters. Some good spots to research would be the towns of Celerina, Sils, Pontrsina, Guarda, or Scuol. You can get lots of information on these with a text search here or at www.engadin.ch. I spent a week in the town of Zuoz a few years ago during a Fodors gtg. We had a blast -- took the Bernina Express one day, cycled two days, explored Soglio one day and Guarda another day. Lots to do, lots of hiking & biking opportunities. Have fun! s |
Sorry, a spelling error: should be "Pontresina." You'll need it right to do the searches.
