Rome Suggestions ?

I’m planning a trip to Europe in April – it is shaping up that we will be able to have a 4 day stay in Rome before going on to Scotland. It’s been 35 years (!) since I was in Rome, and now will be traveling with 3 kids ages 8, 11, and 14.

Two years ago we spent a week in Paris, renting an apartment and having a great time. I’d like to see if we could rent an apartment in Rome, even it is for just 4 days. My 11 year old has a metabolic disorder (PKU) that requires a very strict low protein diet (no meat, no dairy, no regular pasta). That translates into needing a refrigerator, and at least a hot plate to boil water for lo pro pasta. I’m thinking that these requirements would not be available at a hotel.

In Paris, we did a lot of take-out (some of the gourmet groceries had delicious food), and French fries are always a staple. (My other 2 kids aren’t exactly the most adventurous eaters). I’m assuming we would be able to do something similar in Rome. Staying at an apartment, cooking and eating take out worked well for us in Paris – I’m assuming that this would work in Rome as well – any thoughts ??

Hi Orcaj, if you go to www.slowtrav.com/italy/ you should be able to get some good information about apartments in Rome. You will no doubt enjoy that website.

Have a wonderful time in Rome. Since you haven't been there in 35 years do be prepared for a lot of changes!!! Best wishes to you and your family.

Hi Orcaj

Last year we rented through romanreference.com. They were very efficient, answered emails promptly, organised transport to & from airport ect. I would certainly reccommend. The local food stores were great for breakfast stuff & snacks. The apartment had fridge/freezer, cooker etc.
Have a look at their web site
