Rome small hotels/B&Bs: HELP!
 

Hi!, My husband and I are doing our second trip to Rome 12/26-1/5. We'd like to do a small-ish hotel or a larger B&B. hopefully no more than $200 US/day. And we would like to be fairly central. I've started going Tripadvisor, w/ lots of mixed reports. Suggestions ? Favorites ?

Hi Diana - I stayed at the Gea di Vulcano, short walking distance from the Termini station. The Colloseum and Trevi are walking distance, plus they have a nice breakfast and dining recommendations nearby. Also GREAT shopping on Via Nazionale! I found good recommendations on TripAdvisor, so good luck!

You might want to consider an apartment for that amount of time. There are many that are under your budget, in great areas.

That is what we are doing this year. We got a fairly well reviewed, 2br about 2 blocks from Piazza Navonna for about $200 per night.

We stayed at Hotel Teatro di Pompeo,(www.hotelteatrodipompeo.it) which is within a one minute walk of the Campo de Fiori and 5 minutes from Piazza Navona. The location is excellent and we walked to all the sights except the Vatican - we took a bus there. Breakfast is included and is served in the basement of the building which is part of Pompei's theatre. Our room was 150 Euros a night and included private bathroom, AC, fridge and hairdryer. The staff were very pleasant and we thought the hotel excellent value for money. If you check Tripadvisor you will see that it gets a very good rating.

Just returned form Rome - loved Hotel Santa Maria in Trastevere: 20 modern cottage-like rooms encircling an open courtyard; excellent service and breakfast. 25 minute walk to St. Peters, Forum or Campo dei Fiori. 180 euro per night (cash)

To Daveesl, where are you staying this year, if you don't mind me asking?

We're renting an apartment in Piazza Montevecchio. This time it is Regina and I plus my daughter. Additionally, our friends from Japan may also join us, but they don't know yet. So, if they come then my daughter gets the sofa bed, if not then she gets a bedroom. ha ha

I think the total cost is $1100 euros, but that isn't too bad for 2 bdrm/1 bath. The negative is that it is on the 4th floor, no lift. What the heck, a bit more exercise for us.

Just got back from Italy where we spent 6 days in Rome. We stayed at and loved the Arco del Lauro B&B in Trastevere. Lorenza is fantastic! So very helpful. It's not fancy but spotlessly clean, and a great location, away from the madding crowds but close enough to walk to almost all of the sites and very reasonable (120 E for a double in May!) You would be deligted with our boutique favorite..The Modigliani..should be able to get a room for around $230..easy walking to all major sites. Good sized rooms, elevator, good buffet breakfast, attentive staff.
