Rome Shuttle Limousine - WATCH OUT!
We booked Rome Shuttle Limousine 2 weeks before our arrival in Italy. I was quoted a price of 35 Euros for the trip from the airport to our hotel in center city Rome. There were 5 e-mails from them regarding the fare. I kept asking if the price included our luggage and if it was for 4 of us, or was it 35 per person. I finally received confirmation that "Yes, the 35 Euros is for all 4 of you, and your carry-on luggage." I was told that someone would meet us in the terminal holding a sign with our name on it.
Sure enough, there was a woman with our name on a sign. She knew all about us and my e-mails. The van we were ushered into was a plain, unmarked white van with a male driver. When we got to our hotel, however, the driver said we owed him 55 Euros. I pulled out my e-mails and showed him the 35 Euro confirmation, but at that point, he no longer 'knew' English. We spent 20 minutes trying to discuss this with the woman in the limo office (the driver had called her) to no avail. They said they had not e-mailed me, yet I knew I had e-mailed no one else. This was a poor start to a greatly anticipated vacation. Thank goodness it improved after that incident, however, I would never use Rome Shuttle limousine service again. |
Sorry to hear about the confusion between you and your limo service.
If it makes you feel any better, a taxi would have cost you 70 Euro. |
You should NEVER pay more than 50 euros(two persons with luggage) for a taxi ride into Rome from FCO airport. One always asks the price before getting into the taxi.
|
We couldn't even get them to send us a confirmation. We called and emailed several times and never got one. Even though the 2 people I spoke with spoke English (and I understand Italian and speak a little), the answers to our questions simply prompted more questions which were never answered. So, we arrranged pick-up through our hotel.
You are right, olijoc, watch out for Rome Shuttle Limousine! |
bardo 1: Thanks, I guess it could have been worse.

Isn't the nub of this the phrase "and your carry-on luggage" ? I imagine they charged an extra €5 per suitcase. Even if you had these famed '22" rollaboards' that many here are so keen on, I don't think the car firm would class that as carry-on luggage.
"You should NEVER pay more than 50 euros(two persons with luggage)" : so doesn't that make €55 for *four* persons with luggage quite reasonable ? |
Are the drivers with Rome Shuttle Limousine independent contractors? I ask because our experience with this firm was EXCELLENT! Our driver waited patiently while our flight was an hour late and then drove us to our apt. and charged 35 euros for four of us. On the way home, he picked us up ON THE DOT and got us to the airport 10 minutes early. The return trip cost 40 euros because it required the driver to leave before 8 a.m. I used this service because of the glowing reviews I found on Fodor's and I was not disappointed. I hope you wrote and raised a stink about your driver. He should be fired. This is the first negative thing I have read about this service.

We just returned from Rome and used Rome Shuttle Limo. The driver was at the airport with the sign, assisted us with our luggage, took us to the hotel thru Vatican City (with some commentary along the way - we were in no rush). We had two checked bags and two carry ons and the cost was 35 euros. We gave him a 10 euro tip. I would use them again. sorry your experience was bad, we thought they were great.

I wonder if they ARE independent contractors? Rome Shuttle Limosine took our family of 5, plus 5 22" bags, plus carryons, from the airport to our flat off the Campo dei Fiori for 50 euro cash. It went very smoothly. I was surprised by the low price quoted (since I was getting quotes in the 75-90 euro range from the other services) but the reviews on Trip Advisor looked fine.
Sorry it didn't go as smoothly for you! |
It's possible that you are talking about different companies with similar names. There are several companies with Rome Shuttle in their name.
I've used www.limoservicerome.com with excellent results as have others on this board. A few years ago there were several complaints about Limoservicerome, but it wasn't actually the same company. It was a company that had changed one letter in the name Limoservice(S)rome. |
We are considering this service but the title of this post certainly makes us wonder. Given the time since, can anyone give their recent experiences with Rome Shuttle Limousine, good or bad?
This would be for two people, two large luggage and two carry-ons. Thanks in advance...bdj |
Rome Shuttle Limousine is a fine company with an excellent reputation. There are multiple companies that either try to play off of their name or simply have something that sounds like it.
We have used them many, many times. 4 am pickups at apartments, 8 am pickups at FCO. The rate depends on the number of people. This is the website... http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com/ Oh, and they always use Mercedes, so I'm not sure what the OP from 2006 was writing about. |
I too have always had excellent service from Rome Shuttle Limousine. But once the pick-up at FCO was with a van. I wasn't about to complain: my flight was 1.5 hours late due to a strike, and it was almost midnight.

The daytime cab fare to central Rome is FIXED at 40E. The earlier comments about 50E are in error unless a price increase went in since this past October.

We have used Rome Shuttle Limousine twice and were happy both times. I do recommend them.

The daytime cab fare to central Rome is FIXED at 40E. The earlier comments about 50E are in error unless a price increase went in since this past October.<<< The post of 50€ was from 2006, before Rome started the fixed fare (2007). |
I used Rome Shuttle Limousine earlier this year. Upon pick up from the airport - the driver was waiting and we rode in a mini-van. On the way back to the airport - from the Piazza Navona area, the driver was right on time and the vehicle was a Mercedes. We had a copy of the e-mail with the price quoted, and we didn't need it. They charged what was quoted.
