Rome--September 2010
 

Although we won't be going to Rome until September 1, 2010, since we just got our mileage tix booked I thought I would take a look at hotels. But I am finding a lot of hotels are showing no availability for 9/1 through 9/4, even though they show availability the next week. I checked the Italian holiday schedule and I don't see any holidays at that time. Anyone have any idea if some big event is occurring at that time?

It's probably way too early to book for Sept of next year. Maybe start searching in March or April 2010? Even that might be a little early, but some places might be taking reservations by that time.

I would think that's the end of most of Europe's vacation since August is when most take vacation (2nd half of August). 9/1 is mid-week. Not a big event, just normal holiday time.

Actually not too early since as I have posted some places are showing availability for the next week, but thanks for the input anyway.

Ooops sorry about that. I don't know how to read. I remembered checking availability for some places in June 2009 for Spring 2010 and in some places, I came up with nothing because it was too far in advance.

Looking for a hotel in Rome, try Hotel Selene, I just booked it for my trip in September 2010. There are good websites, I booked on www.initalia.it for 3 nights and it was a good price. I searched other sites as well, www.booking.com or laterooms.com. If you find a hotel you like, check it out on tripadvisor.com.
These sites are for reservations only, you pay at the hotel when you arrive, that way if something happens, you can cancel without penalty
