Rome Restaurants
 

Our family (eleven adults) will be staying at Hotel Condotti near Spanish Steps. Any recommendations for a good one but not one with sky high prices and not too dressy!! <BR>

Jack: Do a search on this forum for Rome <BR>restaurants; I recently did same and got many good recommendations. I know there were some located near Spanish Steps that were well regarded and most of those people who list their favorites <BR>also give the approx. cost. If you cannot find what you want thru the search function, e-mail me and I will go through my list before I leave for Rome next week (yahoooo!) and send you the names I have. Regards.

Based largely on Forum recommendations, I ate lunch last weekend at these inexpensive but very good restaurants near the Spanish Steps: <BR> <BR>Otello Alla Concordia <BR>Entoteca Antica (wine bar/antipasti) <BR> <BR>Other recommendations near Spanish Steps (although can't vouch personally): <BR> <BR>Le Grotto <BR>Rampa (antipasti) <BR>Al 34 (moderate) <BR>Nino's (moderately expensive) <BR>Gusto <BR>Il Leoncino (pizza) <BR> <BR>I had dinner at the following, a little further from Spanish Steps: <BR> <BR>Costanza (near Campo dei Fiori)(moderate) <BR>Orso 80 (north of Piazza Navona: cheap, lots of antipasti, probably fun for big groups)

Jack, before our Rome trip we did just the same thing, trying to find all sorts of good places to eat. Once we got there however we discovered that it was lots of work after trapsing around all day to try and hunt down a place to eat. Instead we asked at our hotel for this type of place or that type, and they were almost always right on in the suggestions. They had the added benefit of being close by so that we could just wander back after we ate. <BR> <BR>Just my 2 cents.

The restaurant we've been in the area that best fits your requirements is undoubtely <BR>RISTORANTE NINO (via Borgognona 11, tel. 06/6795676, closed in August and Sundays, reservations a must) This is just a block south of the bottom of the Spanish Steps on Borgognona. we liked it so much some years ago, that we dined there 3 nights in a row. Cuisine is Italian, mainly Tuscan. Dishes are plain but of highest quality. Roman Artichokes are special. Very nice waiters (the first time out we tipped our waiter nicely ... the other two nights we got many taster plates for free :-) <BR> <BR>Paulo <BR>

I would also recommend Nino's. Dinner was about $17 - 20.Plus the wine. But the food is very good. Old wooden Italian atmosphere. Busy! Men waiters.
