Rome Restaurants
We will be in Rome for the first time next month and need some suggestions on restaurants.
Thank you for your help. |
There is another post about this today.
During our trip to Rome earlier this month, we did as we always do in Eourpe, eat at whatever restaurant looks good to us at meal time. It can be hit or miss, but so can going somewhere recommended by someone else. I did write in the other post that we enjoyed our dinner at a small restaurant in the Jewish Ghetto. We were traveling with our 14 yr old daughter and she never complained about a meal. |

I will recommend my favorite, LA SCALINATA, on via Sant Andrea delle Fratte 32-authentic Roman osteria, menu with many specials of the day chalked up on a blackboard in front of the restaurant-everything I've ever had here was excellent, and I always eat here at least once when I'm in Rome, convivial atmosphere, but the place is packed for lunch and dinner, so by 8pm there are usually no tables. It's located just between the Spanish Steps and the Trevi fountain, so after dinner, you can walk over to the Trevi at night to enjoy.

Are reservations for dinner recommended or should I play it by ear? Thanks for your help :-)

I posted quite a few details in my trip report (I guess you can click on my name or something, right?) and I think the best of the restaurants we ate at was Ad Hoc on Via di Ripetta. As far as pizzerias, Pizza Re' (also on Via di Ripetta) was fantastic. Neapolitan style pizza, though, not Roman.
Buca di Ripetta was also good (and also on Via di Ripetta), but stay away from the monster steak!! |
If you're not picky about where you end up, then play it by ear. I would seek out an interesting place from the recommendations and find it the day before or early the same day and make reservations. Your hotel can help with that also. I just think it's fun trying to track down an address on a map in Rome.

Check out the thread called We survived Rome without a Moneybelt: Our week in Rome for some great restaurant reviews.
