My wife and I leave tuesday for aprox. 3 weeks in Italy. Our last and longest stay will be in Rome. I have several restaurants culled from this site and from relatives, etc. Would appreciate any rants/raves from you on the following list.

Ideally some really wonderful places would be in the More affordable group, as no one can eat every meal in 150 euro price range. Glad to hear from all and thanks in advance.

#8 La Tartaruga - Wonderful little place. Seats just +/- 24 people, so reservations in June are probably in order. Tucked away in a quiet street near Teatro Argentina, so be sure to have the address/ph# with you just in case.

Three raves:

Orso 80. The antipasto consists of an endless series of bowls of wonderful stuff at a bargain price. When I was there, four kinds of eggplant, meat balls, mozzarella balls, a plate of prosciutto and a plate of melon, omelets, artichokes, fava beans, olives, fried rice and cheese balls, stuffed vegetables... Don't order a second course unless and until you're sure you want one.

Antica Taverna. We had a few minutes to wait for a table, so they brought us wine on the house to sip in the street while waiting. Great friendly atmosphere, the owner was dancing in his T shirt to the radio in the back at the end of the night. Great food, inexpensive.

La Tartaruga. More refined atmosphere, small wine bar with great food, family run. Homemade pasta with wild boar, yummy. With the wonderful fish soup, they bring olive oil made on their own farm.

I was actually a bit underwhelmed by Ristorante 34. It was okay, the food was all right, but a Roman pal of mine said "you Americans must like to overpay for your eating experiences to eat there". The head waiter was a guy who paid attention to detail, but he seemed to have to practically prod his wait staff to get service to the table. (He made sure I got free soup, though!)

Otello (your #5) was a fun experience. It was almost like eating in a garden, the waiters were friendly, the food and wine a good value.

I would also recommend highly Nino, in the same neighborhood (Spanish Steps).

I am a member also of the La Tartaruga fan club. I found out about it on this message board and I've been singing its praises ever since.

Myosotis:
www.myostotis.it was excellent. Simple décor, inviting pink color scheme. Complete dinner for one with a glass of wine, about $35 going on 3 years ago. If I'd had more time I would have gone there again. Pleasant and efficient service, very good food. A very good value. However, some disagree, I noticed that at fodors rants and raves comments (Click on Restaurants at the top of this screen) some people didn't like it.
