Rome restaurant open early for dinner
For my first night in Rome this fall, when I'm jetlagged and I want an early, casual-dress dinner, does anyone have suggestions for a place with good food that serves dinner early, say starting at 6:30 or 7pm. I'll be on Roman meal times by the following day, I promise. I've got lists and lists of restaurants, just no indications about earlier dinner hours.
I'm staying at the Santa Chiara probably, near P. Navona, but willing to walk a bit.

We were just in Rome a few weeks ago and stayed near the Piazza Navona as well. Had no problems finding places that served at 6:30-7:00 in this area. I'm sure you'll find several without any problems. Enjoy!

We found restaurants open virtually all day long. You'll have no trouble finding a place to eat. On the other hand, if you're looking to eat at a specific place, check the times first. Many of the better restaurants don't open until afer 7PM. But, still, others are open.

Gerry

thanks, I know there are places open, I was hoping to get a specific recommendation about one of the "better" places you referred to.
I may be jetlagged, but I still want a good meal and a charming place for my first night in the Eternal City. I just don't want to fall asleep in my pasta at 9pm and miss it!

Elaine you come across as a snob. Hope you find that "charming place" to fall asleep in.

From what I have seen of Elaine she is anything but a snob.

She is a very helpful contributor here and has shared her extensive reports for both Paris and Venice to anyone who asked (me included).

I understand what she is looking for but unfortunately I am unable to help her. She wants a nice place for her first night in Rome - not just a meal - a memorable one.

I'll be back from Rome on 7/13 Elaine - if its not too late to help you I'll pass along what I found.

Donna
thanks all minus one for the info
and Donna I'd love to hear any details from your trip

Elaine, Would you consider going to Trastevere? It's high on a lot of people's lists just on it's own. We love the Trattoria Mezzaluna and I have them opening at 6 pm. Call to confirm at 581-2612. This info is about 6 years old, so please confirm first. Tiny, tiny place--have the spaghetti alla carbonara--a Rome classic--and some rosatello. Beautiful veggies. (and, Elaine, we know you're not a snob! I don't like to sleep in pasta either.)

She gets too hungry for dinner at eight-
That's why the lady is a tramp.

What's snobbish about wanting a nice, early dinner?
|
kam
great suggestion, good excuse to explore Trastavere a bit assuming I'm still ambulatory, I'll look into that trattoria to see it it's still there.

And Larry Hart, I never come late to the theater either. thanks
|
Roman's don't think of it as snobbish. Just a bit barbarian(uncivilized).
Love to help you Elaine, but I just don't know what hours places are open. But, I'm sure you'll easily find a good one. There are so many. But, if I was too tired to enjoy it, I'd save the best for another day.

Have a great trip,

Gerry
