Rome, Positiano & Capri ???

We are trying to plan our 2006 vacation and I thought I could get some insight from this great board.

Please review this itinerary and give whatever advise you think will help and Thank you very in advance.

We have been to Rome before (only for 1 day)
so are planning 3 days there. We are thinking of flying into Rome and then taking a train to Naples to get to Positiano.

We are planning 4 days in Positiano with side day trips to Ravello and Pompei and Amalfi.

Then onto Capri for 2 days. We then plan on one nite in Naples and flying home from there.

This is very preliminary, so what side day trips would you suggest or any other thoughts

Hi P,

Another way to Positano is to train to Salerno, walk down to the ferry dock, and take the ferry to Positano.

It's a prettier trip.

See http://www.salernocity.com/comune/tr...i/costiera.asp

You might want to consider a daytrip to Sorrento and Pompeii.

Ira,

Excellent idea. Thank you! I guess I was wondering why more people flew into Rome and then flew back out of Rome instead of Naples (when your staying in Amalfi)since Naples is so much closer than going all the way back to Rome.

purplesage,

The reason many people fly out of Rome instead of Naples is that until this summer there were no nonstop flights from Naples to the U.S. Now I've heard that there is new nonstop service between Naples and New York. I don't remember what carrier, but it isn't one of the big ones that usually come to mind.
