rome port
stopping in rome on a cruise for one day. do not want a shore excursion. does anyone know what is around the port, if anything to do. like shops, resturants, etc. thanks
|
Hi FP - Are you saying you want to stay in Civitavecchia for the day - rather than visit Rome?
Steve |
I suspect some cruise lines advertise that their ship calls in "Rome" without explaining that the ship actually calls in Civitavecchia which is a town about one hour's train journey from Roma.
I'm sure there are shops and restaurants in Civitavecchia, but there are probably more interesting places nearby. |
This is the link to the port's tourism page
http://www.port-of-rome.com/uk/index_uk.html It looks as though you really want a shore excursion to Rome or maybe Tarquinia |
You can train into Rome in about 1 hour (tickets will be about 10€ per person each way).

to steve jsmes. you are correct. we do not want to got rome are there shops and stuff at the port in Civitavecchia or relatively close? thanks for your help.

There are certainly shops and restaurants.
Alternatively if you want a day on the beach, catch a train to nearby Santa Marinella. Steve |
