This has been a monumental day! I just got home from picking our daughter up from her first day of high school. It's a real rite of passage to bring your baby to HS, and it hits home when you spend a half hour with her in the hallway trying to break into her locker (&^#% combination lock wouldn't work!!!)
And what should I find upon logging in but some enchanting--because that is really the only way to describe them--photographs of Rome, designed to make me lust for Rome even more!!!! I can hardly wait until we go.
A friend of mine once remarked that she has never, ever heard anyone say they didn't like Italy. That's high praise indeed for a country to be so beloved. Let me add one thing more: lovers of Italy, as you have amply shown me, are lovers of people, too. I see this every day on this board and it's true.
But enough of the mush! I do believe if I were an ocean liner, Bailey, you'd have cracked some champagne open on my side, to send the DH and me off on our maiden Italian journey.

How especially nice of dear Bailey and what a good idea!! If we can't break the bottle of champagne over your heads when you take off for Italy, why don't we all do the next best thing??
I will toast you as you leave, what date and exactly what time??
Maybe I will toast you with Limoncello instead, what do ya'll think?

Mimi, we leave the Thursday after Labor Day, so I still have three weeks to go! At this point I almost feel like those two country singers--the mother and daughter team, Naomi Judd is the daughter I believe. You know how the mother had hepatitis and said she would be retiring, even though she was pretty young, and planned a "farewell" tour. And another "farewell" tour. And she sang more goodbyes than anyone I ever heard! I feel like I'm on an extended farewell tour here...but it sure is fun! ciao for now, Deirdre

Bailey, those photographs are spectacular! What camera did you use? Do you ever sell copies? I especially was thrilled with the Venice pics and the New Jersey pic of the reflections of the trees in the water. How big could that be blown to?

Jesus...I was looking at the Jersey photos...you really ARE talented to make JERSEY look great!
Just kidding...but really...I don't remember Jersey being that beautiful. If I did, I might have moved years ago when a long distance boyfriend wanted me to move there.

we didn't see any weddings...maybe that's why there were a few dresses left in store windows.
CRAZYMINA...I did "move here to be with boyfriend"....married him & moved from Phoenix...best move of my life. SHHHH yes, there are beautiful places in Jersey!!
JODY...Thanks...I have sold some photographs....I now have an AGENT ...blah,blah....she's arranging??? a few deals...we'll see

IRA... Sorry about lack of trip report...I didn't even know about this Fodor's cult. I promise...future trips will have reports! I think I'll have DrZ (the husband) do it for me ...after all he's written a few things in his day. Marconi Hotel in Venice. Aound $200 per night for a room overlooking the canal...I think they only have 2 rooms with views. Our third night we had to switch to a room in the back...a little dark... quieter...but very hot & stuffy...upper 90's in April. We had to wrestle the other American couple for the fan!!!
SCARLETT ...What a babe, her big boy PUP!!! Quite the beauty!!
DIN....WE"LL ALL MEET YOU AT THE DOCK FOR A PROPER BON VOYAGE!!!

Next time, we all do a Roman Holiday together! Now that would one wild ride! Bailey, you could be our official trip photographer, Calimari, you could whip up some authentic Italian food for us, and Scarlett and I could scout out the best jewelry finds. Crazymina, we'll find a charmingly forward Italian man for you to flirt with...and Statia, you could be our star reporter...and this is only a start!
