I will be in Rome for 4 days in Sept is there a pass i can purchase for Collessum etc.
will there be long lines in Sept? are there skip the line passes?

I think we passed about 2000 people waiting in line at the Colosseum thanks to the Roma pass. (It was probably less but it saved a ton of time.)

thanks for info i went to www.romapass and found pass is good for free entry to first 2 visited museums and/or archaeological sites of your choice and use of transportation.
per colduphere post it sounds like this pass gets you to front of the line? I want to make sure i understood colduphere post & that pass does get you to front of line.
also any suggestion on best place to use these 2 free entries.

At most sites there are two lines. A very long line to purchase tickets and a separate entrance line for security. The security lines move fast and if you already have your ticket (in this case your pass), you just need to get in the security line (sometimes it might say tour group entrance).

For best value use of the pass, the two most expensive sites are the Colosseum/Forum/Palantine (counts as one entrance off the pass) and the Borghese Gallery. The Borghese requires reservations even with the pass. They did have an online call back feature you could use to make the reservation, but I don't see it on the website now. Perhaps someone else has a link for it. You can just call them during open hours. Phone numbers are here.

With the pass, you're supposed to be able to revisit the Colosseum/Forum/Palantine during the three days.

I am sure kybourbon is right but I must say our experience was a bit different, and confusing. There was one very long line and I am not sure if they were buying tickets or going through security. We did not see any signs. A guide asked us if we wanted to join a tour. We said no, we had our Roma pass and by the way could she tell us where to go. She pointed to the very long line, told us to stay to the left of the long line and enter at the turnstyle/gate. That's what we did using our pass. No one checked us for anything.

Maybe we broke a rule?

I also found it very convemient for using the bus and Metro system for 3 days.

Buy the pass at the National museum or Palentine Hill for shorter lines-seriously it is soooo much quicker than the other sites to purchase there.

no, cold, you didn't break a rule. If you have a roma pass you just keep to the left going into the colosseum and skip all those who are waiting to buy tickets.
