Rome over Valentines Day

Hi.. i am just wondering if Rome is usually a hotspot for travelers over Valentines Day. Is it crowded at that time of year? My son will be traveling stand-by and i'm wondering what his chances of getting on a flight might be. also.. how cold could it be? thanks for any thoughts. (go figure, he will make it there for his 21st birthday before i get to go)

I don't think it is a hotspot in February. I have been there in March and it wasn't crowded. I was cold but I am from So Cal. so I am a wimp.

Buongiorno callalilli,
IMO, the town to be in for Valentine's Day would be Terni in Umbria. Valentine, martyred in 273AD, was that town's bishop. Terni now celebrates Feb 14 in both religious and secular ways.
Buon viaggio,

Hello,
Feb. in Rome is off-season. It will not be crowded at all. A mid-weight jacket during the mornings and evenings will be fine. Have him take shirts he can layer. If he is coming from the states, I don't know what his chances for standby might be. The flights are usually sold out. I will keep my fingers crossed for him.

thank you all for response and good info. i'm actually looking at purchasing a ticket for him (his 21st birthday present).. less stress that way. and he definitely will be layering clothes as we are AZ thin-blooded.... anyway, thanks again!!
