Rome Neighborhood Hotel
 

We have been to Rome several times. We are looking for a hotel in a 'neighborhood' for a week. We were thinking of Trastevere or some other similar neighborhood, and hoping for something under $150 (in March).<BR>Thanks<BR><BR>

You might consider the Borromini, in the Parioli district. It's away from most of the major tourist attractions but in a nice residential area and close to a small park. Most of the surrounding buildings are well-kept apartments.<BR><BR>Rooms are nice. Decent breakfast. Helpful staff. However, it might not meet your under-$150 criterion. That's tough to find in Rome, but not impossible. <BR><BR>

My experience at the Borromini was that it was just OK -- it seemed a bit overpriced for it's 4-5 star rating. I've stayed at much nicer hotels for the same price. It is in Parioli, which is a bit like the Upper East Side, Cleveland Park, Brentwood, or some other semi-suburban/still-urban pretty upscale neighborhood. If that's what you're looking for, then the Borromini would probably do you fine.<BR><BR>You may also want to try San Lorenzo (the university district just northeast of Termini) or Testaccio, the old meat-packing district that is hip again. I don't know of any hotels in Testaccio (they must exist, but I don't know them), but there are several in San Lorenzo.
