ROME -Need Suggestions for Hotel/B+B 1st 2 wks Oct -
Looking for a place in Rome that is central, reasonable and has a little charm.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to keep it to $100 a night for a single room - hoping to get a weekly rate for 2-week stay - and perhaps a B&B might be more affordable. I would think I'd want to be a short walk to Piazza Navona, right? Is Campo Di Flori nearby? If you can recommend specific places I'd really appreciate it! - I finally found a Hotel in Venice - Hotel Paganelli. I was finding some B&Bs for $7-800 for the week - this is $1200 - but the reviews are ALL great, it looks beautiful, its right off St. Marco Square so hard to get lost - and you walk off the water-taxi from the airport right into front door. Last single room so I booked it - free cancellation till end of Aug - if you can top it! Thanks for your help! |

I actually stayed at Hotel Paganelli on both of my visits to Venice. First and second Italy trips. I elderly broters who were the oweners may no longer be there but they, as well as their hotel, were completely charming. Hotel Paganelli has a great, convenient location and is authentic as it gets. There are tacky street vendors right in front, due to the proximity to Piazza San Marco. Hotel is just one bridge away from the San Zaccario (SP?) vaporetto stop. They have interior courtyard rooms and just a few with a view of the Grand Canal. Creaky stairs, heavy wooden shutters on the windows, antique Venitian furniture, lovely staff. Breakfast is served at a dining room around the corner..... First trip I choose this hotel for my ski group that included couples and singles. Everyone said they loved it. Second trip I was traveling solo and had a single room on the 3rd floor. Perfectly adequate and comfortable. If I visit Venice again, I might try out an apartment in another neighborhood just for a new experience. Buon viaggio! |

Have you thought about renting an apartment? It might be more economical for a 2 week stay. I rented from Real Rome a couple of years ago and was pleased. They have some studios in your approx. price range.

$100 a night in the centro area is tough - That's less than 80€ a night. Here a few links sorted from Venere in that price range, ranked by the guest ratings...

Google MONASTERY STAYS. they are very cheap, clean, sometimes include breakfast and have loads of charm.

I agree with other posters that you will probably find better value for the money if you rent an apartment for a longer stay. Like Apres_Londee, we had good luck with realrome.com.
