Rome mid October 2021
This is our second time to Rome, we seen all the main tourist attractions. Do you have any suggestions on any epic places/events/experiences?
6 nights in Rome |
What do you consider "all the main tourist attractions"? Not being snarky, it's just that there is SO much to see in Rome. For example, have you been on the Scavi Tour? To Palazzo Massimo alle Terme? Ara Pacis? I would put these on a main attractions list, but others might not.
I would be very careful about booking anything. Make sure EVERYTHING is cancellable/refundable. Italy has just gone back into a general lockdown, and the country's Covid vaccination rollout has been at a glacial pace. There's no guarantee that everything will be open even by October. |
On your planning thread for last year’s proposed trip to Naples, Sorrento and Rome, I posted a link to my planning thread for Rome in which I got a ton of excellent suggestions! You might find it helpful in your planning.
Ditto to the above comment about making reservations that are cancellable. Right now, Italy is experiencing a third wave and are under lockdown again, while the vaccine rollout is very slow. So there’s no guarantee that travel will be open by the fall. |
My wife and I have been to Rome 8 times now and have seen some amazing sites often missed.
Domus Romane is a villa located near Piazza Venezia. You walk through on a plexiglass floor so you can see all that has been exposed from the excavations. At one point you are looking out upon Trajan’s Column. Domus Aurea (the Golden Palace) is located just above the Colosseum. Your tour guide is often one of the archeologists that are working at the site. At one point your given a virtual tour of what it looked like back in the day. The Capuchin Crypt is located near Piazza Barberini. Very interesting but not as disturbing as the one in Palermo. We found the Capitoline Museum worthwhile. |
