Rome - Metro options?
 

Are there options for the Metro in Rome? Something like a week long pass as they have in Paris? I was there two years ago and was much less savvy back then...amazing how much you learn as you get old(er).

There are several different options. One day, three day, week, month.

In my opinion, while a Metro pass in Paris or London might be a very good thing, it is less likely to be in Rome. Unless you are staying somewhere out on one of the lines, it is usually pretty unlikely that the metro will do you a lot of good. It isn't a major system like in Paris, for example, where you can go almost anywhere on it.

Forgive me if you were aware of this -- I wasn't sure how familiar you are with the Rome system.

Actually,Patrick I disagree, as the metropasses are usable for the subway,trams and the buses.

I agree with massagediva. But I was there for six days, and I just broke even with the pass, so it's not a huge savings if you're in centrally located accommodation and like to walk. If staying near Termini, I think it could be very useful. It's called a CIS ticket, and I bought it in Termini. I think it's only good Monday-Sunday.

I still think the very best way to enjoy Rome is to walk everywhere that one can. Of course some people are not able to do that. But if you can, I truly think you enjoy Rome more.

RAchelT..Though we hardly ever use public transport in Rome, your new web page certainly is comprehensive and easy to follow! I'm sure it will be very useful to tourists !

I ,too,agree that walking is a wonderful way to see Rome.It's my preferred mode of transportation.But I walk many miles everyday I'm there,and at some point,my feet scream "Basta!"

An approaching Express bus #40,or a good old #23 or #980 have been glorious sights to behold. ((f))

Sorry, I didn't mention the use of busses or trams, but I guess, like others, my feet are always my main mode of transport. We would hop on a bus to Termini or other station when doing a day trip out of town, but in a full week last time, I don't think I was on public transportation more than maybe 6 times -- that's less than once a day average and certainly not financially advantageous to any weekly pass.
