Rome Marathon on my free day in Rome

I just found out Rome Marathon coincides with my free day in Rome. Wondering if anyone would know how much it could interfere with my plans? Race Start/End is located close to our hotel. I have 9a tour booked at Borghese, but I don't anticipate that being an issue as it is in opposite direction of course. Tour over at 11. My plan after Borghese is to make my way towards Doria Pamphilj Gallery, taking time have lunch, shop, pop into a few pretty churches. After Doria, I'm hoping race should start to wind down as I head towards Jewish Ghetto/Trestavere area for afternoon. I plan to use Rick Steves audio guide to explore those areas before dinner.

I did email Doria to confirm they will be open that day. Any advice or information greatly appreciated!

I would imagine you may have to wait at some intersections for runners to pass. Unfortunately, it looks like a late start (my one marathon started at 6am--this one starts at 8:50am). it looks like runners have 7 hours to finish, so you may have to be patient, but usually streets are not blocked completely. You generally pass as there is a break in runners. I don't think it will really interfere.

Here is a link to the route:

I would encourage you to get involved. The crowd cheering for anyone and everyone meant a lot to me during my marathon. I am sure the participants in Rome would also be excited to have you cheer for them!

We encountered the marathon in 2012 as we walked from Trastevere to Campo de Fiori. It was great fun to cheer the runners as they passed by!
