ROME: long-term apartment rental recommendations?
I'm looking for a 2 or 3 Bedroom apartment in Rome for about four months-March thru June some where in Trastevere or Campo di Fiori area. I am sorting through the existing references here on fodors, but would appreciate anyone who can give me any added in depth information or recommendations-good agencies, individual owners, or the like. Any information for long term rentals is welcome.
|
have you checked out "Rental in Rome" ? I don't know if they do long-term or not, but we just came back from Europe and rented a 3 bdrm apt in Trastevere. Everything worked very smoothly with them, and we were more than pleased with the apt - in fact we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived in the apt.
|
ok, so don't know where my head was at....our apt was only a one bdrm, but accommodated 5 of us very easily. Anyway, the recommendation for that company still stands.
|
Thanks so much, coreinndr! I'll check them out. Glad you had a good experience! Anyone else had long term rental experience? (at least a month)

Ciao Bella,
You might wanted to try the classified ads (- or place your own) in 'Wanted in Rome' - the Rome mag for the English speaking community. http://www.wantedinrome.com/clas/index.php If you speak/read Italian a good place to look is the local newspaper Il Messaggero. Hope this helps ... Steve |

By the way, we just booked a Trestevere apt. through Sleep in Italy.

I have just booked an apartment for a one-month rental in Trastevere. I did a lot of research and spent a great deal of time on the internet before I found what I wanted at the price I wanted. It was finally through a contact I made on vrbo.com that I got lucky. One owner (whose apartment I could not afford) put me in touch with one of her friends who spends most of her time in the country. This gracious woman agreed to rent me her own private apt. that she uses when in the city. Obviously, I cannot give names or specifics here since this was a private arrangement. What I can say is that it does work to try a little networking, especially with private owners who live in Rome and have friends and other personal resources. Before I got this apartment, I was very close to confirming a reservation with Shelley at Really Rome and/or Paula with Jewel of Trastevere. Both were wonderful to work with and their apartments--both in Trastevere--seemed to be just perfect and available for monthly rentaly. That long-term or monthly rental may be harder to secure in high season, but don't forget that you can still ask for monthly discount rental rate. Also check out Craig's list in Rome--the section in temporary/sublets as well as vacation rentals and apartments. I still find myself looking there every day because it got to be a habit and because I am still curious about what comes up on a daily basis. The responses about placing your own ad are also sound--since you want an apartment for four months and this is not the usual situation. Although some owners might actually like that--not having to advertise and change to new tenants every week. It also makes sense to establish a relationship with one agent for one agency who can keep looking out for you and notify you when a deal arises that would be a suitable match for you and your needs--so give them a little bio on yourself and exactly what you are looking for, especially if you are going to be in one place for a long time and want to be comfortable and happy with your selection.
Although I obviously did not go through the entire rental process and all of its steps (up to and including arrival), I will still say that I had excellent email attention and treatment from Feel Home in Rome and Home in Rome (2 different web sites). Someone else also mentioned Halldis (sp?) which specializes in rentals to traveling business people who require longer rentals. Anyway, I guess it's easy to tell that I am a retired English teacher--talks too much and has too much time on her hands. So, sorry if I took off and offered more information than you needed. BTW, I am not a marketing researcher or a shill working for any of the places mentioned above--just trying to help a sister traveler with my two months of experience of apartment searching. Isn't it sad that we now have to worry about being accused of this on a site where we are supposed help each other with personal experience and referrals. Too bad. |
Dear Bellastar:
Just wondering if you saw my message and have tried any of my suggestions. Jo |
hi jgarvey- I wanted to come back to this thread to say that I thank you so much for your good thoughts on my question and yes, I have and am following through on all I have learned here. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer at l length and my apologies for not responding sooner- I'm losing my job (along with lots of other cooworkers) at the end of this month and my time has been eaten up scrambling around trying to figure out ways to survive solo in the big city. As a result, I haven't been posting much lately!
This is for friends who are moving to Rome for a few months, so all your suggestions are really good! Grazie tante! |
I've rented the perfect apartment in Rome - great location right off of Campo Di Fiori and very nice inside. I have recommened the same to 2 separate friends who have stayed there as well. It's the Green apartment off Gubbonari. He has other rentals as well an was great to work with.

Hello. We (a group of 6) just came back from Rome and just want to share our great experience with the place below. Very clean and spacious as well as a host that speaks English. Highly recommend. Certainly recommend this agency as they were very pleasant and easy to communicate. Good luck! http://www.b-b.rm.it/accommodations/desc.php?id=387 |
Thanks so much gamidtown, by coincidence, whereas I was looking for friends before, now I'm looking again, for me plus 2 others! How great that you posted your information-
|
hi, bella star,
Just a word of caution: i thoight that I'd spotted this "helpful" post from gamidtown quite alot recently, and lo and behold, a search on his/her name revealed numerous posts, all saying exactly the same thing - just the name of the "recommended" agency occasionally changes. probably not altogether independent! regards, ann |
Sorry for giving the impression of advertising. I just got back from a great trip in Italy and thought to help. (I was jetlagged, didn't want to do work, and just went copy and pasting in an effort to help people asking for apartments and such) But rather than write a special individual post for each person asking for help on Rome or Venice accommodations, I thought to just copy and paste. I can see how the repeated posts *look* like advertising, but rather I was just simply trying to help. I have read this site extensively for planning purposes and have seen some evidences of "advertising" - sorry about falling into that as I didn't think I was really advertising, but just helping. Live and learn. I totally have no commercial interest in the apartment agency or unit or owner. Just an option if you're looking to keep costs down for a large family. Sorry to create such a hubbub with folks on Fodor! Have a nice day. :) |
thanks for your advice annhig, but not to worry, I have traveled many times in Italy, speak the language, and have friends there, So I will be checking any tips here carefully before moving ahead with my plan. I research carefully when it comes to long term commitments, and hardly at all when going for just a week or two!
