Rome, January 2010
Rome took my breath away as soon as I walked over its “san pietrini”, and I am sure no words can make it justice. However, I will try to describe how I spent my days, hopefully giving some tips to those who are planning to go.
I booked a beautiful apartment very close to the city centre through a website that deals with apartments rental in Rome: www.apartmentsinrome.it . Thanks to the good weather I could spent much time in the open air, around several famous squares of the city. I loved Piazza Navona, with its majestic Fountain of the four rivers, and Piazza del Popolo, that is near the large green area of Villa Borghese, and Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere on the west bank of the Tiber. As for monuments, Trevi's Fountain was the one I liked most. I particularly enjoyed it because my friends and I – actually, almost everyone who was standing there – dropped some coins in the fountain and made a wish. It is a nice local custom and it really brought us good luck! Of course, I didn't miss some shopping in the well-known Via veneto, where you can find fine clothing suitable for all tastes. For any information about the city you can visit Rome's official website: www.comune.roma.it . Enjoy it! |
Glad you had a great time and good weather. Can't wait to read the rest of your report!
|
Leaving on April 29th for our third visit to Rome. It's about time for the countdown to begin. Can hardly wait. PJK

Um. Call me skeptical, but this FIRST POST reads more like an advertisement for commune.roma which, by the way, is only in Italian (at least I couldn't find a way to translate it).
|
MelJ - that was my thought when I read the initial post...
|
and strangely, Kaile, who has never posted anything else, doesn't even tell us where this wonderful apartment was!
the real give away though is the bit about the weather - i've jsut got back from Rome and i don't think that anyone could describe this winter's weather there as "good". Kaile - you really must try harder. |
The Commune Roma link is the official website for the city of Rome, but it's not the official tourism website. Here are the two websites for that.
http://en.turismoroma.it/ http://www.060608.it/en/default/index/area/default If it's an advertiser, it's probably for the apartmentsinrome website. I've never heard of it before. |
I agree, annhig. We were there over the New Year holiday and it was cold and windy with rain!
|
I am sorry, I was misunderstood. I didn't mean to advertise, I wanted to share my experience and give some tips, including the ones regarding the links. Annhig, I didn't say where the apartment was... well, do you mean the address? I think there's no point in giving the address and I won't do it! As for the weather, obviously it's winter and that means it's cold. But comparing to other European capitals, certainly Rome is not of the coldest, and with a good coat you can stay in the open air all day long. That' all, believe what you like. :)

Kaile - why on earth not? loads of us post the details here of apartments we've stayed in or are considering doing so, and as it's through an agency, you're hardy breaching anyone's privacy. in fact, you're doing their advertising for them. I'm afraid my jury's still out! |
Actually, the Via Veneto is kind of naff. There are a couple of clothing shops and shoe stores (No, not another Hogan shoe!) worth going into, but most of this street caters to Russian, Indian, and Middle Eastern tourists who saw "La Dolce Vita" on the telly once.

Kaile, you're not doing a very good job at spin control for your website...
|
well said thin. there's nothing in Kaile's post that she couldn't ahve got from a tourist guide. in fact she sounds as if she swallowed one.

You were lucky to fine good weather. On february 12 it snowed in Rome.
Post scriptum : i don't subscribe your point of view on Rome's official website, notably on public transports! |
