Rome Itinerary- first trip - please help
Is this too much?
We arrive at noon. We are staying near Campo di Fiori. We plan to walk to Piazza Navona and Trevi Fountain in the evening. We have the next full day open and this is what i was thinking. - we don't want to do the lines to get into the colosseum, so we'll just see the outside. THen we thought we'd walk around the Forum, Palatine Hill, Pantheon, and possible trek over to St. Peter's Basilica. Is that doable in a day? |
No, not too much, in my opinion. You arrive at noon.....any plans for that day? Or you're just going to go out that night? You could combine the Pantheon as it's not far from Piazza Navona. It's a long walk ( but doable if you like long walks ) from the forum area to St Peters. If you're planning on doing that in the afternoon, the lines should be cleared.

Hi Mom - Yes, quite doable.
The Pantheon is only 5 mins on foot from Piazza Navona (- and is en route to the Trevi Fountain) - so it makes sense to see the Pantheon on your first evening too. Hope this helps ... Steve |
thanks for your suggestions. I think we'll probably take a nap when we get settled in, and then venture out on foot for the walk to piazza navona, trevi fountain, and pantheon. and then have dinner.
then we'll do a big day the next morning, with the colosseum, etc. |
Hi Sidandpennysmom,
Most people will recommend NOT napping when you arrive. Rather, get out and walk, get fresh air. You will adapt to the time change much more quickly if you go with the new schedule upon arrival. Buon viaggio! |
Hi
Yes, it sounds doable. If you want to save some time you can catch the bus from Piazza Venezia over to the Vatican but you can also walk :d Check out my trip report with pictures on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm . My wife and I went there a couple of years back and we had a great time. I have also made this interactive Google map http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy_map.htm where I have pointed out some of the attractions. Click on the various markers to get some information. Hope this helps in your planning :-) Regards Gard http://gardkarlsen.com - trip reports and pictures |
My guidebooks say you can buy a combo ticket at Palatine (no lines) that is good for Colosseum too. It lets you skip that long line
