Rome in May- First time to Europe
My husband & I and another couple are going to Rome for a wedding in mid-May and are looking for advice on where to stay in Rome, and where else we should go? We have 6 days before the wedding....Thinking about Venice & Capri? Not familiar with Eurorail but told that is how to travel over there. Suggestions? We are used to staying in Marriott-level hotels. Thank you.

I would stay somewhere in the Piaza Navona, Fountain of Trevi, Spanish Steps triangle.
They are no more than 15 minutes from each other.
The Santa Chiara, located directly behind the Pantheon and directly between Piaza Navona and the Fountain of Trevi is quite popular on this board.
We stayed there a year ago May and would definitely stay there again. Great location, very nice hotel.
It's about 6-7 hours by train from Rome to Venice and about 3 to Sorrento.
The Sorrento Peninsula (Capri, Positano, etc) is spectacular. Venice is a feeling.
From Sorrento you can take daytrips to Capri (30 minutes by boat) or Positano, etc.
I'm sure everybody has their opinion about which one.
Flip a coin (then toss it in The Fountain) and have a reason to go back next time.

Hit enter before finishing.
It's probably not Eurail but by train.
Go to www.trenitalia.com for train schedules and travel times in Italy. We have always travelled by train. One day we'll rent a car.
Be prepared, you are responsible for your own belongings. Carrying them, lifting them and watching them.
You probably will find most hotels a bit different. Most are going to be smaller. They have a different feel. Maybe it's because most things just feel older there.
Our hotels were built with the amenities that theirs had added later.
I remember travelling there over 20 years ago when it wasn't automatically assumed your room had a private bathroom.

Hi Minnie,
For your 6 days before the wedding, I suggest 3 in Venice and 3 in Florence.
You could fly into Venice and out of Rome.
In any case, there are ES* trains from Rome to Florence to Venice and back to Rome. See www.trenitalia.com/en.
DO NOT BUY A EURRAILPASS.
Capri is a bit of a schlep.

Trying to do Venice and Sorrento/Capri along with Rome is too much in the imt eyou have. Look at a couple of guides and decide which you would prefer then go either North or South. For 4 people a car would be easier and probably cheaper than train.
