Rome in December?
Has anyone stayed in Rome over the Christmas holiday? Is this a good time to go to the city? What are temps like? I've been there before and have seen the major sights, but due to some end of year vacation time am considering Christmas/New Years there.
Thanks,
Rosa

Hi

I was in Rome last Christmas/New Years, the avg temp was about 45F to 55F (Aprox). While I was there no rain, no lines, everything was open and I had a great time.

KD

We spent 10 days in Rome two years ago over Christmas/New Years. It was great, as previous post said "no lines."
The Pope has a special Papal Audience that you can get passes for in advance. We had a little rain but no problem. Took trains to Naples and Florence. Got tickets at Termini (not in advance) no lines. The only thing we should have planned for was New Years Eve dinner. Ended up in a Chinese Restaurant off Via Della Scrofa which we laughed about. But after we got settled in Restaurant, we kinda/sorta ended up drinking and singing with some students from Milan.
We had a great time in Italy and have already purchased our tickets to be there January 2nd/ 2003 for 10 days. Staying at the Albergo Portoghesi a block or so north of the Piazza Navonna.

Any specific questions, send email...Bon Giorno

Have you read Alan Epstein's book As the
Romans Do? I enjoyed reading about this
American family that moved to Rome in
the mid 90's. I seem to remember a
chapter devoted to Christmas time in
Rome.
